(Doug Bandow) – George W. Bush was a massive spender and regulator. He launched the biggest expansion of the welfare state in four decades and pushed for ever tighter federal control over issues like education. He increased spending in almost every area, trashed the Constitution by making extraordinary claims of presidential authority, started an entirely unnecessary conflict, and botched both of the wars which serve as his prime legacy.
Heckuva’ job, Georgie!
Apparently that’s what some Republicans are now thinking. Reports National Journal:
Looking for a fresh sign that GOP confidence is reaching full tilt? Try this one on for size: George W. Bush appears to be making a comeback. The thought was unthinkable just a few months ago. But, whether it helps or hurts GOP prospects this fall, that’s what is happening — just in time for Republicans to start trying to claim the former president’s mantle and “restore his legacy” in 2012.
There’s no better evidence that Republicans are not yet ready for prime time!
If they don’t understand that virtually everything George Bush did runs against the professed principles of the GOP, then they should not be allowed anywhere near the levers of power.

George Bu$$$$$$$$h never saw a budget that he couldn’t $$$$$$$ign, committing trillion after trillion of our money to his agenda. Where does the US Constitution authorize bailouts? The Dept. of Education? HUD? Etc.
Well, we still love the guy – the budget stuff was bad, as was NCLB and Part D…but at least he could make a decision and carry it out. Looking forward to ever better days, but W still has his loyalists – including me.
I’d rather have him in there right now
George Bush RIP -Rest In Peace !! I voted for him twice, given the alternative. Yes, compared to the long winded bovine excrecia Obama spouts he looks better.
But the fact is, like him or not, George W. was a world class RINO !! RIP !
