(Chuck Muth) – When Nevada state Sen. Dennis Nolan (R-9) and his Republican primary challenger face off in a debate on Jon Ralston’s “Face-to-Face” program later this week, expect sparks to fly.
Today the Halseth campaign launched a radio and mail campaign against the liberal incumbent over his relationship with a convicted rapist. Here’s the press release from the campaign:
“Defending rapists is not okay,” — that is the message being sent to Senator Dennis Nolan from the father of teenage girl who was sexually assaulted by Nolan’s friend in 2004. Voters will also be receiving that message in their mailboxes and on the radio starting this week.
The radio ad and mail pieces come from the campaign to elect Elizabeth Halseth to Nolan’s seat in the State Senate. Tim Andersen, the father of the teen who was assaulted by Nolan’s friend, Gordon Joseph Lawes, is working with Halseth’s campaign because he wants the public to know that the Senator was a character witness for a rapist. Following the 2008 trial, it took the jury less than two hours to convict Lawes, despite Nolan’s testimony.
“I want the public to know what he did before they cast their ballots on June 8th,” Andersen said. “What kind of person takes the stand to defend a man who raped a teenage girl?”
Halseth’s campaign manager, David McGowan, says the campaign is glad to give Mr. Andersen the opportunity to tell his story. “Politics aside, the public needs to hear what happened to this family. They have been through so much in the last six years, we hope that giving them the chance to speak out will allow them to heal,” McGowan said.
There are plenty of reasons for Republicans to boot Nolan – Handmaiden for the Nanny State – from office, but perhaps none more powerful than the one Mr. Anderson represents.
It will be interesting to see how Sen. Nolan tries to spin his support for a sexual predator. It’ll also be interesting to see whether or not he chickens out of his debate on Ralston now that his opponent has kicked him right square in the family jewels.

No, I’m sure that Nolan wasn’t so stupid as to express his views in those words, but I’m mighty tired of Democrats like Nolan raping us taxpayers. I hope that it will be good riddance next November.
Yes, I know that Nolan has a nominal R after his name – just like Arlen Spector did until recently. From their voting records on taxes, you would never know it.
Well, we know how Mr. Nolan will spin his support for a sexual predator now. On Ralston’s show he said his friend is innocent, and the Supreme Court will hear the case.
Pearson I hope you are not refering to Senator Nolan as a Democrat because if you are, you have no business speaking of him, nevada politics are Arlen Spector for that matter. It was by majority vote of the Senate, not Senator Nolan alone who decided to raise taxes in order to minimize our great state’s debt. As for other matters, Tim Anderson is a lying, coniving biased source of information. When he reaches St.Peter’s Gate he’s gonna have a tough time convincing God that he didnt condemn an innocent man to imprisonment. Tim Anderson asked, “What kind of person takes the stand to defend a man who raped a teenage girl?” Let me answer this one, because its so obvious right? Take a look at Senator Nolan’s life, Google it, observe it. Determine what kind of man he is because if you havent already met him, you would know that his word is his bond and the man will do anything to help somebody in need, a Good Samaritan if you will. Why would he put his career on the line for something like this? There’s more to the story that our friend Tim Anderson is purposely withholding. As for Elizabeth Halseth, though keen and young, she is nieve and too ripe to play this game. Nolan is undefeated as an elected State Senator and plays the game by the rules. Halseth is relying on Tim Anderson’s slanders against Senator Nolan to gain her votes. She will not win this election
Do I think Nolan should be defeated in the primary? Absolutely, but based on his record as a legislator. His legislative record provides plenty of ammunition to take him down. It is extremely disappointing to me that Ms. Halseth has taken this low road, and so utterly unnecessarily.
Put the shoe on the other foot. If you truly believed a close friend was innocent of a heinous crime and was wrongly convicted, would you feel obligated to keep your mouth shut? Could you keep your trap shut if you felt in your heart that your friend didn’t do the deed?
I understand a jury convicted Nolan’s friend. But I happen to have a relative that I feel was railroaded by the legal system, and even if I were in politics, I would still defend her character with everything I have, because to this day, I believe she did not do what she was accused of. I do not in the slightest sympathize with people who actually do what she was accused of – I just happen to know things that cast a very suspicious light on her prosecution.
Maybe Nolan made a grave error in judgment, jumping to the defense of a buddy. Or maybe he knows more than he’s saying, trying to be a little chivalrous toward the victim.
Face it – WE don’t know what is in his heart. I think this ad is disgusting, and symbolizes so much of what is wrong with politics these days, and why so few people are willing to get in the game and be slimed.
I still want to see Nolan lose this primary. But I want it to be because Nevadans understand that government spending is out of control, and Nolan is culpable in that respect.

I have to disagree with Halseth going negative on Nolan. First and foremost she violated state laws of which she agreed when she went to the Clark County Elections and filed her campaign. The last document she filed was a “play fair” document whereby she attested that she would only attack the voting record of the incumbent, etc. As illustrated by even the most liberal jerk in Nevada, Jon Ralston, the incumbent had more than enough of a voting record to establish why he should not represent conservatives in Nevada. However, Halseth’s personal attacks and defamation of Nolan are going to be used against her in an ethics charge to be filed in the state for her violation of law. You have to imagine, we got Halseth running for office and she could not answer one single question imposed by Ralston????? What does she know???? Obviously not a thing! Ralston spoon fed her the facts, but did she go with facts, no!! She resorted to negative campaigning! She infringed on Nolan’s Constitutional rights of Freedom of Speech, the accused rights to a fair trial by bringing this issue up even though, he is being given an appeal and if you know anything about the appeals process, unless the case has merit to be thrown out, it would never be heard to begin with, especially by the Nevada Supreme Court. The issue was totally a “he said-she said” issue! Purely without any merit and if justice had been served, it would of had been thrown out as their were no witnesses. In the trial, the girl testified being drunk, however her own sister assisted in getting her drunk! So is the sister also complicit in this trial? I think so. The sister aided and enabled the so-called crime. So why was she not convicted of giving her sister alcohol and partaking in the sexual act? She helped obviously by giving her sister alcohol. In any “he said, she said” crime, there is no justice. So the best thing is to dismiss it entirely. The jury failed to convict the guy’s wife for her involvement, which she readily admitted in getting her sister drunk. She should be locked up, if her husband is in jail as well. She was just as guilty.
Mr Nolan’s voting to me seems to be aligned with a conservative democrat rather than a right leaning individaul. He still would support helping out the other, a “good samaritan” if you will and that philosophy tends to lean left. It’s not that conservatives are selfish but rather we have a different perspective.
As far as the annonymous post up there, it seems highly unlikely that Mr Nolan was not the creator of that post.
Mr Nolan’s record should be enough to dissuade any moderate republican, and so the attention then shifts over to the general election.
By the by, this last post here is a bit disturbing. Even IF the 16 year old consented, the guy’s poor judgement was the cause of his predicament. To most conservative folk out there, having sex with a 16 is NOT ever ok. Even if the liberal majority rules that it’s okay if a 16 year consents, remember that when you do face a jury or a judge you face THEIR judgement and not the liberal’s majority. I know that juries are to uphold the LAW, but seriously, how na’ive are you? I would also be inclined to believe that conservatives more often than not would consider actually staying to be a juror. I know the jury selection process, and I know the questions imposed by the litigants, but still, It’s easy to place your extreme right views on the jurors’ box.
I am ready for Ms Halseth to represent me in the state senate, albeit with a little bit of my help and the rest of us in district 9.
