(NN&V staff) – Under the leadership of Dale Andrus – former Republican primary candidate for Assembly District 33 – and Kent Howard, a former Elko County Republican chairman, Republicans for Janine Hansen for Assembly has been launched with over sixty Republicans lending their support.

Hansen is running for the District 33 seat as the Independent American Party (IAP) candidate. The seat is being vacated by Assemblyman John Carpenter, who has been term-limited out of office.

“I believe Janine Hansen is the best qualified candidate for Assembly District 33 and will work diligently for the citizens of Elko County and Nevada,” said Andrus, chairman of the Republicans for Janine Hansen committee. “She has vast experience working with legislators and would be exceptionally effective dealing with legislative matters. Janine is a conservative in the best sense of the word. Nevada needs conservative legislators who can make decisions based of the difficult economic times we are currently facing.”

“I am supporting Janine Hansen for Assembly District 33 because we can no longer afford to have professional politicians that only know how to tax and spend,” added Howard, vice-chairman of the group. “She received Citizen Outreach’s ‘Conservative of the Year’ award in 2009 for the great work she has done in past years to uphold constitutional principles.”

“Janine Hansen is certainly my pick for Assembly District 33,” says Thelma Homer, a local tea party activist. “She is rock-solid, honest, hardworking and unintimidated. She cannot be bought or flattered into submission, and will fight a very articulate and informed fight when she knows she is right. Her opponent, on the other hand, John Ellison, is a ‘good old boy.’ These are two very different candidates – with John Ellison being a go-along politician and Janine who will fight tooth and nail for the people of this state.”

“I greatly appreciate the support I have received from so many Republicans,” Hansen said. “People of all parties are concerned with the crisis that faces our state and nation. We cannot expect things to change unless we change who we elect. Raising taxes yet again is not the answer to our economic woes. We must work to revitalize free enterprise so that jobs can be created and return to the constitutional principles of limited government which are the foundation of prosperity and liberty.”

  1. The Nevada Statesman officially endorses Janine Hansen for State Assembly, District 33.

  2. …As well as the rest of the candidates running under the IAP banner.

  3. Peter P says:

Janine has been a great conservative and hard worker for years BUT she has refused to work within the Republican Party to advance her beliefs preferring instead to launch and champion a 3rd party, The Independent American Party. While I wish Janine well, I’d like to point out to my fellow conservatives that the Republican nominee for this seat, John Ellison, isn’t exactly a silk stocking liberal. John is a conservative too. He is also very knowledgeable about Elko County land issues and all other matters pertaining to this part of the state. John is an honest man and deserves your consideration as he actually has a chance to win this seat and Janine doesn’t.

  4. Chuck Muth says:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to support the candidate of their choice; however, I’ve been covering politics and training candidates and activists for almost 20 years now, and the claim that Janine can’t win this seat simply isn’t true.

While John Ellison might not be a “silk stocking liberal,” he’s no movement conservative either. In this political “tea party” environment, if Janine can raise enough money to demonstrate to enough voters that she’s better qualified and will be a more dependable conservative vote in Carson City than Mr. Ellison – which she is and would be – anything could happen in this three-way race.

This election isn’t about being “honest.” It’s about dramatically changing the course of our government at both the state and national level. Janine is the kind of agent of change we need. Mr. Ellison would be a defender of the status quo. What’s called for today are boat rockers. Janine is; John isn’t. It’s just that simple.

  5. Cody says:

Sorry Peter, but John’s chances are diminishing as Nevadans are getting sick and tired of the status quo that has let them down over and over, and look to a new outsider face.

In fact John Ellison is a part of that status quo, and either you don’t see it, or you’re simply his lap dog.
