(Jim Clark) – In last week’s column, I described some of the happenings at the Senator Dean Heller fundraiser hosted by Bruce and Nora James at their historic Crystal Bay home overlooking the lake. There’s more. To reset the scene, the event began with cocktails and appetizers in the front yard with the big donors later assembling on Bruce’s deck for a dinner overlooking the lake. NN&V Exclusive (Lori Piotrowski) – “Let me start on a positive note—my wife and I will become grandparents for the first time in October!” So began Senator Dean Heller’s address to the Spring Mountain Republican Women’s Club on Thursday, July 25. “But let me ask you about the quality of life you enjoy today. Lost in the political rhetoric, people neglect [...]

The latest schemes are leaking out of the Senate, where Majority Leader Harry Reid is scrambling to find enough money while not offending Big Labor. The Senate Finance bill imposes a 40% tax on expensive private health plans, many of which belong to union members as part of their negotiated contracts. So Mr. Reid wants to reduce this tax and is floating a new [...]
