Heck Applauds House Passage of CTE Reauthorization

Bill includes Heck’s Career and Technical Education Equity Act; Will boost Nevada CTE funding

(Joe Heck) Congressman Joe Heck (NV-03) today applauded House passage of H.R. 5587, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, legislation that reauthorizes the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and will help more Americans – especially young Americans – enter the workforce with the tools and knowledge they need to compete for in-demand jobs.

The legislation contains Rep. Heck’s bill H.R. 5152, the Career and Technical Education Equity Act, legislation that ensures Nevada receives its fair share of federal career and technical education (CTE) funding. According to a report by the Congressional Research Service, it is estimated that the Heck legislation will increase Nevada’s share of federal CTE funding by 11.5%.

“This bill will help make it easier for state and local education leaders in Nevada and around the country to build upon their success in CTE and continue to prepare students for college or full-time, good-paying jobs in today’s ever-changing economy,” Rep. Heck said. “We must ensure that Nevada continues to receive its share of federal funding for career and technical education funding to support programs that help so many students achieve success after high school.”

Rep. Heck announced introduction of his Career and Technical Education Equity Act during a visit to Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy, a school that relies on CTE funds to offer students educational opportunities in the following majors: Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Justice, and 911 Dispatch.
