(Erica Neely) – In a tweet on the first day of early voting, my opponent, Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager, urged people to “join me in voting for legislative democrats so we can continue to pass legislation that protects Nevada’s families.”
Too bad that doesn’t include banning men from competing in women’s sports!
In fact, as Jaden Urban of KTVN noted recently, “there are 23 states with laws restricting transgender athletes in some capacity. Nevada is not one of them.”
Why not? Because Democrats in the State Assembly – led by Mr. Yeager – have refused to pass such a common-sense bill protecting female athletes.
“The unfairness is off the charts,” tennis great Martina Navratilova said. “I will say it again – keep women’s sports female. It is not the place for failed male athletes.”
By now I’m sure you’ve read or heard about the women volleyball players for the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) deciding not to play against a male/trans player on the San Jose State University (SJSU) team.
The players themselves issued a joint statement announcing their decision . . .
“We demand that our right to safety and fair competition on the court be upheld. We refuse to participate in any match that advances injustice against female athletes.”
Indeed, the danger of female athletes getting hurt while playing against a biological man is real. Several female volleyball players have suffered serious injuries after being smashed in the face and body by forcefully-spiked balls.
Leading Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo to write . . .
“I wholeheartedly respect the decision of the (UNR) players. No student athlete should ever be pressured to play a game where they don’t feel safe – period.”
But UNR’s leaders felt differently, releasing a statement . . .
“The players’ decision does not represent the position of the University. The University intends to move forward with the match as scheduled. ”
The insanity of this is off the charts.
But here’s the reason the administration gave for throwing its players under the bus: Nevada’s new “Equal Rights Amendment.”
It states, in part, that “Equality of Rights under the law shall not be denied on account of gender identity or expression.”
When the bill came before the Legislature, Sen. Heidi Gansert asked if it would affect women’s sports by allowing men to compete against them.
Democrats said absolutely not.
In fact, Sen. Nicole Cannizzaro declared that existing laws “protect women’s sports” and that the new ERA law “would do nothing to change that.”
Yet here we are today.
UNR administrators were more worried about being sued by the ACLU than about their players’ safety.
And for the record, Mr. Yeager was one of the biggest Democrat cheerleaders for passage of the bill which has put these women in such danger.
Let’s face it, Democrats under Mr. Yeager’s leadership aren’t “protecting Nevada’s families.”
Just look at your grocery bill. Or the cost to fill up your gas tank. Or the rampant crime in our neighborhoods. Or the fact that Nevada remains dead last in education.
Democrats and Mr. Yeager have been in charge of the State Assembly for the last eight years.
If you want to change public policies, you have to change public officials.
If you elect me to represent you, you can bet I’ll sponsor, co-sponsor, and/or vote for a bill to ban transgendered men from competing in women’s sports.
And that includes banning them from women’s locker rooms and bathrooms!
I want to be YOUR voice. OUR voice.
An independent voice that TRULY protects Nevada’s families.
If you agree, I ask for your vote!
