(Chuck Muth) – The only bad thing about last night’s re-boot of Politics on the Rocks – featuring Gov. Joe Lombardo and Congressman Mark Amodei – was that we sold out two weeks ago and so many of you on the waiting list couldn’t get in.

Vic’s Las Vegas restaurant is not only absolutely beautiful, but the food and drink were excellent, as were the staff and management. They really rolled out the red carpet for us and everyone had a great time.

The event started off with a private VIP reception with our event sponsors – each of whom got a “goodie” bag that included a special coffee mug I had made up commemorating Gov. Lombardo’s record-setting 75 vetoes during the last legislative session.

Alan Stock of KXNT radio – who started our First Friday happy hour events with me almost exactly 14 years ago – kicked off the reboot’s program welcoming everybody.

Then Congressman Amodei took the mic.

The man is just so personable and funny and down-to-earth. He arrived wearing his signature shorts, tennis shoes and Hawaiian shirt and mixed and mingled with everyone throughout the night.

And no one – including yours truly – was spared from his wit and barbs.

The Congressman delivered a few humous remarks before introducing the governor. who then regaled the crowd for over 20 minutes of unscripted, off-the-cuff remarks.
I think people who have never seen that side of the governor are really underestimating him. There’s a quiet strength to the man that many foolishly take for weakness. He knows exactly what he wants to accomplish and quietly goes about “getting sh*t done” without coming off as a raging bull in a China shop.

And he’s funny as hell – though in a different way from Rep. Amodei. It’s a dry sense of humor that reminds me a lot of Bob Newhart (google him, kids). Here’s an example…

During his remarks, the governor noted that some critics – including Democrat Assembly Speaker Steve “Donut Boy” Yeager and Republican National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah – have falsely accused him of paying me to write good things about him.

The governor noted that I simply call ‘em as I see ‘em. He then made the false rumors true by reaching into his pocket, pulling out a $1 bill, and handing it to me on stage. Hilarity ensued.

So NOW the Yeager-Chattah rumors are true. I’m officially on Gov. Lombardo’s payroll. I only hope it doesn’t break his bank account or shoots me into a higher tax bracket!

We then capped off the evening with a special signing ceremony…and this was really cool.

Sue Lowden, owner of Vic’s, has a b-e-a-utiful limited-edition print of a painting of the state capitol which has been signed by every governor over the past 50+ years – other than Steve Sisolak.

The print itself is rare – only 100 copies were made and registered – but Sue’s print with all the gubernatorial signatures is one of a kind.
