(Patrick McNaught) – Many Republican voters are disappointed that a majority of our Republican senators went along with the massive tax increase passed by the Legislature last year. With 5 of the 9 Republicans voting in favor of the nearly $1 billion in higher taxes, Republican voters lost faith in those who run on the promise of limited taxes to fund a limited government.

After all, we are often promised by Republican candidates that they will hold the line when they get to Carson City – only to be disappointed when the tough decisions must be made. After all, residents, employees and job-providers in Clark County had to make major sacrifices in this recession – even as Carson City politicians increased taxes to increase spending. It makes no sense and is deeply frustrating.

That’s why I’m running for office.

Look ahead to our next legislative session. You have a choice in this primary (State Senate/District 12) to determine who will serve as your next state senator. I am not the incumbent, and I will not go to Carson City to take more from you at a time you have less.

Our citizens have lost their jobs, their savings, their homes and in many cases, their businesses. I’m running against Joe Hardy – who has been in Carson City and has consistently voted to increase taxes so he could use our money to increase state spending. This is not a campaign about personalities, but rather about policies.

I have significant differences with the policies of my Republican primary opponent – and I hope your vote will represent the direction you would like to see our state go into the next legislative session.

The high-taxing, big-spenders are already telling us they need $2.5 to $3 billion of additional funding! Who do they think can afford to turn over that kind of money when we are ALL sharing in this deep recession?

If elected, I will send a strong and resounding message to state government that taxpayers, employees, job-providers and retirees have sacrificed enough … and the state cannot keep digging deeper into our wallets and paychecks – simply because they think cutting government spending is too much to ask.

Simply put, if you are upset with past tax and spend votes in Carson City, and if you are upset that too many Republicans joined the Democrats to pass record tax increases, you have a choice to not accept that any more. If you want to change the Nevada State Senate, change the Senator. That’s why I’m running, and I hope to earn your vote.
