(Assemblyman Ed Goedhart) – The Las Vegas Review-Journal has reported that 59.5 percent of Clark County’s government-run schools – the “public option” for education – failed to meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind for the 2009-10 school year.

A total of only 152 schools made the grade, while a staggering 215 got an “F.”

Outgoing Superintendent Walt Rulffes, “who plans to retire when a successor is found, was pleased overall and said the results were a ‘good going away present,’” the RJ reported.

WHAT?!! More than half of your schools stink on ice and you’re “pleased”?

And yet, Democrats reject any talk of offering the parents and students of these schools a voucher so they can escape these “miserable failures” and attend a private school of their choice. Indeed, the Democrat majority in the state Assembly last year wouldn’t even hold a hearing on my Excellence In Education and Increased Opportunities (EIEIO) school choice bill in the ’09 Legislature.

Democrat gubernatorial candidate Rory Reid wants to make this election all about education, but his plan does not include a “private option” for education. On the other hand, Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval has voiced very strong and unqualified support for school vouchers.

There’s only one conclusion you can come to: Democrats hate children.
