(Gerrit Hale for Clark County Assessor campaign) – Imagine if every house on your street was the same floor plan. Everybody paid $200,000 for that floor plan. Now fast forward 3 years, the value of each house is $100,000. Every neighbor pays a different amount for their property taxes.

Wait a minute…didn’t we say every house was the same floor plan. Why is everybody paying different property taxes? My dear Watson, some home owners’ property taxes were correctly assessed, while others weren’t. How is this possible? Computer issues? Lack of man power in the Clark County Assessor’s office? It’s an unsolved mystery that has been happening for over four years and it’s costing the State of Nevada hundreds of millions in lost revenue.

The incorrect tax assessments make the County Assessor’s budget look like the most unbalanced check book in the world..something the State of Nevada can’t really afford.

This is why Gerrit Hale, recently laid off Deputy Assessor of Clark County, is running for County Assessor. Every year the County Assessor’s Office has continued down this path of 1 + 1 doesn’t equal two. Yet management at the County Assessor’s Office walk this path like it’s the only one available. Meanwhile, homeowners and business owners lose millions and the Clark County budget becomes more unbalanced every quarter . Yes MILLIONS in losses to Clark County homeowners, business owners including Donald Trump and Trump Tower, and Clark County.

Now let’s just talk math. With the huge amount of property tax appeals (almost 9,000 last year) due to an inadequate tax assessment system, how much sense does it make to lay off one of the top performing, lowest paid assessors, Gerrit Hale, and yet keep a part-time assessor who cannot physically meet all the demands of the job. Could it be because that top performing assessor Gerrit Hale wants to run for County Assessor and heaven forbid—fix the faulty assessment system? You bet your property tax statement!

Now let’s talk MISCHIEF!

When the Assessor’s office was forced to recently make it’s last round of job cuts, it begs the question –if Gerrit Hale was not running for office against his boss Michele Schafe, would they have not laid him off and used the 8% exemption rule to keep Gerrit? Did it occur to them that if an employee is running for office against the Assistant Director for County Assessor that laying them off without just cause might be oh..suspicious or illegal?

Michele Schafe is the Assistant Director to the Clark County Assessor and makes a nice $150,000 a year. She wants to defeat Gerrit in the election for County Assessor so she can keep the current dysfunctional system in place! How wonderful for Nevadans!

One appraiser already retired this year, another quit, and yet another is out on medical leave and is planning to retire at the end of the year. Michele Schafe stated that the office is already short handed and with the recent loss of three appraiser positions could the office really afford to lose another assessor such as Gerrit whose most recent annual performance review was signed off by Michele herself. She gave him a good review—but ohhh, back then she did not know he would run against her for County Assessor.

Does the County Assessor’s office with its penniless coffers really need two assistant directors making close to $150,000 per year? They can’t afford to keep the lowest paid most useful appraiser?

Is this not just the good ol boy network protecting their own—despite the cost to tax payers? Funny how the unions are so quick to support the Democrat candidate Michele Schafe making $150,000 per year versus the rank and file workers who they profess to represent.

Gerrit Hale hopes the voters take a look at the simple math and realize the State of Nevada can’t afford these so called “leaders” of the County Assessor’s Office continually misleading the people of Clark County. How many million dollar cases of faulty tax assessments need to pile up before somebody changes the “math formula”?

When does the “Assessor’s Office” start “ASSESSING” correctly?

Assistant Director Michele Schafe as well as current County Assessor Mark Schofield have one thing in common —they can’t wait to vote Michele Schafe in as new Assessor and keep the status quo. After all, they are just the County Assessor’s Office..what does that have to do with math and accountability ?
