Henderson native Annette Dawson Owens, a current Nevada State Board of Education member who narrowly lost her 2024 bid for Assembly District 29, is challenging incumbent Carrie Cox in the 2026 election for the Ward 3 City Council seat.
Owens will host her official launch party for her campaign on Thursday, August 21 – and she’s already drawing some big-name support.
I am looking forward to my upcoming Campaign Launch party and would enjoy having you all there. You can RSVP at rsvp@thestevensgroupnv.com to join me on Thursday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m. at The Pass Casino for a great evening. #cityofhenderson #Ward3 pic.twitter.com/RwKf4319Uq

Her campaign is backed by her long-time ties to the community, a background in education, and a commitment to accountability, public safety, and economic growth.
The launch event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Pass Casino, hosted by local gaming businessman Joe DeSimone, who revived the historic venue in 2021.
The guest list includes an impressive lineup of Henderson leaders, such as Mayor Michelle Romero, Councilmembers Dan Stewart, Jim Seebock, and Monica Larson, as well as former Mayor Debra March and several local business figures.
While city elections are nonpartisan, many conservatives are watching closely, seeing Owens as a candidate who could bring a more business-friendly, results-focused voice to the council.
