MUTH’S TRUTHS
On Monday, a Nevada Republican state legislator posted a video on X suggesting the GOP can make gains among young voters in registration and at the ballot box “as long as the Republican Party can keep on message.”
Part of that message, the assemblywoman continued, includes: “We want to reduce taxes.”
Agreed.
But that’s decidedly NOT the message GOP legislators sent with their actual votes in the just-concluded session.
For example, on Assembly Bill 471 to raise taxes on cigars, only two Republicans – Assembly members Jill Dickman and Ken Gray – voted no.
On Assembly Bill 530 to put gas tax hikes on auto-pilot without a vote of the people, 14 Republicans voted yes.
And on Senate Bill 452 to raise taxes for cops instead of prioritizing spending, only Assemblywoman Dickman and Sens. Ellison, Hansen, Krasner, and Titus voted no.
Too many Republicans talk a good game about taxes during their campaigns, but once they get to Carson City they abandon their principles for expediency at the whim of lobbyists and Democrat leaders.
Again, it’s not enough to just elect more Republicans. We need better ones, as well.
Ones who aren’t afraid to put their rhetoric about opposing tax hikes in writing by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge – preferably in blood.
