The Only Citizens Vote Bus Tour is rallying the nation behind the SAVE Act that was passed in the US House of Representatives last April.
This bill would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
Currently we depend on the honor system to claim US citizenship. And not all accepted IDs are proof of US Citizenship when we vote, such as a student ID.
Believe it or not, this loophole has been in Help America Vote Act passed in 1993!
The SAVE Act is still waiting in the US Senate to (hopefully) be voted on in September when summer recess is over.
And with the Voter ID Ballot Question #7 in next year’s election, passing the SAVE Act is critical to Nevadans.
