Yeager Bankrolls Effort to Punish Assemblywoman Who Called for Ethics Reforms

(John Burke | Better Nevada PAC) – Embattled and scandal-plagued Nevada Democrat Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager is so committed to protecting his party’s Culture of Corruption in the State Legislature that he’s resorted to bankrolling the effort to defeat common sense transparency and ethics reforms – and is using his war chest to punish those pushing those proposals.

The latest campaign finance report for Yeager’s “Nevada Strong” PAC lists $80,000 in expenses for a scam PAC that has been running attack ads against Assemblywoman Heidi Kasama.

The PAC – ironically named “Ending Carson City Corruption” – has been falsely posing as a conservative group, labeling Kasama a “RINO” despite being bankrolled by Yeager’s political organization.

This comes after Kasama put forward a set of common sense ethics reform proposals earlier this year that included open meeting laws, public records requests, improved transparency and disclosure rules.

If implemented, these reforms would directly impact Yeager, who was caught failing to disclose a conflict of interest he had on a bill he voted for that benefited his law firm.

It would also force Yeager’s Democrat colleagues to finally abide by ethics rules, after scandals engulfed his caucus, forcing three of its members to leave office under controversy. Yeager cares so much about punishing Kasama, his organization gave over three times to this scam PAC than to his own Assembly Caucus.

“Steve Yeager would rather continue to live in filth than let the world see him work a shovel,” said Better Nevada PAC spokesman John Burke.  “He has presided over and participated in a Culture of Corruption in our State Legislature, and now he’s trying to punish those pushing those who would clean up his mess.

“Nevadans are through with Yeager and his corrupt colleagues, and they will hold them accountable at the ballot box on November 5th.”
