Like many of you, I was glued to the TV following the shooting of Charlie Kirk yesterday.
And of all the commentary I heard, I think Sen. Bernie Moreno, Ohio Republican, summed it up best…
“Republicans and conservatives are being hunted right now. Let’s just call it what it is. This was a political assassination. This was a lunatic hunting (Charlie Kirk) because of his views.”
Indeed. It’s open season. And the Democrats own this.
For years the left has been either encouraging or turning a blind eye to the use of violence in the political arena.
Antifa. Black Lives Matter. Assaults. Riots. Looting. Burning shops and cars.
The media dared declare it all “mostly peaceful” while Democrat “leaders” fueled the fires with their hateful rhetoric.
Every time they referred to a conservative or Republican as a Nazi, a racist, a fascist, a dictator, a sexist, a homophobe, etc., they were essentially printing up a “Wanted: Dead or Alive” poster.
President Trump. Members of Congress. Supreme Court justices. It hasn’t mattered to the left.
Including their parrots on CNN and MSNBC. And the editors and reporters at the Washington Post, New York Times, and on down the line.
And now a young man, husband, father, and influential conservative leader – armed only with words – is dead.
He was specifically targeted. Singled out. Hunted down.
Not simply for speaking out, but for speaking out so effectively.
For being so persuasive on campus. For changing hearts and minds of the next generation of Americans.
He was destined for greatness. Maybe even the Oval Office.
As such, he had to be stopped by the left. By any means necessary.
There’s an old ethics question often posed in philosophical discussions: “If you could go back in time and kill baby Hitler, would you do it.”
I can’t help but wonder if the evil bastard who assassinated Charlie had that scenario in his mind when he pulled the trigger – especially considering how often Democrats and their amen corner in the media have compared conservatives to Nazis.
This is a sickness that goes way beyond TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). And there’s no moral equivalence to the right, no matter how hard the left tries to spin it.
Yes, name-calling exists on both sides. But it’s not the same.
Calling a Democrat a socialist – especially since many on the left ARE outspoken advocates of socialism – is different from comparing a conservative to history’s most notorious mass murderer.
And comparing Charlie’s assassination to January 6? Give me a break. Not even close.
J6 was literally a peaceful demonstration that, for a variety of reasons, got out of control.
Unlike Antifa and BLM, the people who attended that rally didn’t go there for express purpose of starting a violent riot. They were exercising their God-given right to petition their government.
And the fact remains, no matter how hard the left tries to spin it otherwise, the only person directly killed in the ensuing mayhem was the unarmed Ashli Babbit.
And as tragic as her death was, the fact is she wasn’t specifically targeted. Charlie Kirk was.
And by the way, he wasn’t killed by a gun. He was killed by a gunman.
So for the left and Democrats to use his death to advance their assault on the Second Amendment is absurd. And Charlie would be first to say so.
Where do we go as a nation and a people from here?
I have no idea. Conservatives are still in a state of shock. It’s unfathomable to process. But FOX News’ Greg Gutfeld captured the underlying sentiment yesterday…
“If you thought that you were going to shut the (conservative) movement down, you’re going to get a rude awakening. You woke us the f*ck up.”
Eerily reminiscent of Japanese Admiral Yamamoto’s infamous line after Pearl Harbor…
“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”
Conservatives won’t be deterred by Charlie’s assassination. Sure, we’ll be looking over our shoulders more often. But we won’t be stopped. In fact, we’ll be energized.
Charlie Kirk, as a conservative activist, was a danger to the left. But Charlie Kirk, as a martyr, will now be even more so.
And not just for my generation, but for the next one.
The sleeping giant on the right has been awakened. Rest in peace, Charlie. We got this.
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“You cannot call your political adversaries Nazi fascists and modern-day Hitlers and then say political violence is wrong when your deranged lunatic supporters act on your statements and kill or attempt to kill the people you’ve attacked. I will not accept it. No one should.” – Conservative talk-show host Clay Travis
“To everyone on the far left who says Charlie caused this with his rhetoric, point them to The View.” – Conservative podcaster Guy Nohra
“I love you, Charlie Kirk. And I promise to never be silent again. I promise to never again live in fear. That’s what these evil people want. They. Will. Lose.” – FOX News host Sage Steel
“People are sick. The country is a powder keg and it’s not the time to let your emotions get out of hand. Refrain from losing your cool, instead focus your energy on fighting for change.” – Republican congressional candidate Bobby Khan
