I wish I didn’t have to write this, but I need to say something important.
Hearing of Charlie Kirk’s death has been deeply painful.
Not just because a life was lost, but because of how some people I’ve known for years chose to respond.
I’ve been forced to unfriend people I once trusted, simply because they celebrated his death, or even tried to justify it.
I want to make one thing clear: the company Charlie founded – Turning Point USA – was very helpful in my last campaign.
Their support, their network, their resources made a difference, and I’ll always respect that effort.
That only makes how some are reacting now all the more infuriating.
You may not fully understand what it’s like to be me – a Republican candidate – or the threats, the vitriol that come with the territory.
It’s constant.
And it’s unacceptable that someone would view someone’s death as something to be pleased by, or use it as justification for their hatred.
So, to those who can’t see why that is wrong: we are no longer friends.
I don’t want or deserve people in my life who endorse cruelty, who glorify death – even in politics.
Human dignity matters. Even our opponents deserve compassion – if for no other reason than we’re all human.
