Assembly District 9 is not complicated.
It is competitive. It is close. And it is decided by who shows up.
The 2024 race was determined by approximately 700 votes. In a district with more than 53,000 registered voters, that margin represents just over one percent of the electorate. That is not a sweeping mandate. It is a turnout margin.
Overall participation remains the defining factor. In the previous midterm cycle, turnout barely exceeded 40 percent. Nearly six out of every ten registered voters did not cast a ballot.
The most striking number wasn’t partisan — it was Non-Partisan.
Non-Partisan turnout hovered around 23 percent.
That means more than three-quarters of the largest registration bloc in the district did not participate. Over 16,000 Non-Partisan voters stayed home in an election decided by roughly 700 votes.
That isn’t an attack. It’s a fact.
Midterm elections traditionally see turnout drop. Presidential years surge; midterms shrink. If 2026 follows that historical pattern, AD9 will once again be decided by razor-thin margins.
The arithmetic is unforgiving.
Small increases in turnout equal hundreds of votes. Hundreds of votes decide this district.
If even a few hundred additional voters participate in 2026 — whether Republican, Democrat, or Non-Partisan — the outcome changes. If participation remains low, the result will again reflect only the most consistent voters.
That is not a registration issue.
It is a voter apathy issue.
Every voter in AD9 should understand this: your ballot carries measurable weight here. In a district decided by approximately 700 votes, participation is power.
Erica Neely will once again be running for Assembly in District 9 in 2026.
If you believe representation should reflect those who care enough to participate, engagement cannot wait until after Election Day. It begins now.

In AD9, voter apathy isn’t neutral.
It decides the outcome.
