Another Shutdown, Another Democrat Mess, With Susie Lee Right in the Middle

It happened again.

Washington Democrats picked politics over people, and Nevada Rep. Susie Lee went right along for the ride.

As of February 18, the Department of Homeland Security is stuck in a partial shutdown. It started early Valentine’s Day weekend after Congress failed to pass funding.

This is not the whole government, but it hits agencies we all depend on every day: TSA, ICE, Border Patrol, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and even the Secret Service.

About 240,000 DHS workers are now either furloughed or forced to work without pay.

Let that sink in.

These are the folks screening passengers at airports. Responding to disasters. Guarding our borders. Protecting national leaders.

And Susie Lee sided with Democrats who blocked a short-term funding bill that would’ve kept all of this running.

Party First, Nevada Last

Here’s what happened.

The House passed a full-year DHS funding bill with bipartisan support. Republicans were ready to move forward. But Senate Democrats pulled the plug.

Why?

They demanded a list of new restrictions on immigration enforcement, including forcing agents to wear body cameras, banning masks, requiring judicial warrants for arrests on private property, and even prohibiting unmarked vehicles.

Some of those ideas might sound reasonable on paper. But Democrats refused to allow even a temporary funding extension unless they got their way.

The Senate voted 52–47 to advance a short-term fix. Democrats blocked it. Then Congress packed up and left town until February 23.

Shutdown achieved.

Democrat leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are calling it “oversight.” Republicans are calling it what it is: a political stunt.

President Donald Trump sees it clearly and says Democrats are playing games with national security.

DHS officials warn the shutdown is already hurting airport screening, delaying FEMA disaster aid, and pausing non-emergency Coast Guard operations.

And Susie Lee? She’s standing shoulder to shoulder with her party.

Real People Feel This, Not Politicians

If you flew out of Harry Reid International this week, you may have noticed longer TSA lines.

If your community needs FEMA help after winter storms, that aid is now delayed.

If you care about border security, that’s weakened too.

Meanwhile, federal workers in Nevada and across the country are missing paychecks.

This is what shutdown politics looks like in real life.

Democrats say they’re pushing for accountability after two fatal encounters involving immigration agents last month in Minneapolis. That’s their justification.

But here’s the problem.

You don’t fix mistakes by shutting down Homeland Security. You don’t help families by freezing paychecks. And you don’t protect communities by walking away from negotiations.

Yet that’s exactly what Democrats did. And Susie Lee went right along with them.

Same Old Democrat Playbook

This isn’t new.

When Democrats don’t get what they want, they hold funding hostage. They did it before. They’re doing it again.

They talk about compassion, then leave 240,000 workers twisting in the wind.

They claim to care about safety, then undermine border security and airport screening.

They preach accountability, then duck town halls and head out on recess.

Susie Lee could’ve drawn a line. She could’ve said Nevada comes first. She didn’t.

Instead, she chose party loyalty over public safety. And Nevadans are paying the price.
