(Jeffrey Carter) – I get it. Politics is a messy process.
But when a fellow Republican outright lies and slanders a fellow Republican, it demeans the democratic process.
Drew Johnson has crossed a line. He is a cancer in the Republican Party. I will lay out the facts and you can see for yourself that Drew is lying.
What Happened with LGBCoin
LGBCoin launched on November 2, 2021, with a high-profile plan to sponsor NASCAR driver Brandon Brown. It was a meme coin. A joke coin.
NASCAR ultimately refused to approve the sponsorship. After that news broke, insiders sold their holdings, and the value of LGBCoin fell to zero.
I did write a blog about LGBCoin; you can read it here.
I never made a dime off LGBCoin.
A class action lawsuit filed on April Fools’ Day, five months after the Biden administration was embarrassed by the Let’s Go Brandon movement, targeted almost exclusively conservative figures and was so sloppily written that it had to be rewritten four times, violated federal law three times, and saw 28 of its defendants dismissed.
Fast-forward to Today
Before publishing anything, Drew shopped this story to the Nevada Independent, Townhall, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and the Las Vegas Sun. We have the emails.
Every single one of those news outlets passed. We provided documentation to each outlet showing that there was nothing there. Professional journalists looked at the facts and decided it wasn’t a story.
Drew’s close friend at National Review Online ran it anyway after first approaching us about publishing it at Townhall. When Townhall wouldn’t run it, it ended up at NRO through a back channel.
Four Nevada outlets said no. Draw your own conclusions about why.
Drew fed the NRO lies, and they bought them.
The fact is, I was erroneously rolled up in a lawsuit and was removed in March of 2023. A key fact that Drew and his allies in the press have neglected to mention.
Here is the tweet from my lawyer:
Why Would Drew Lie?
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, I understood that when I decided to run for office, I would be attacked. Politics isn’t beanbag.
This is stooping to a new low, even for a person who has a history of doing this to political competitors. What I did not expect was for a fellow Republican to sink to such lows.
I spent over 40 years working in finance. A record that I am extremely proud of. I put my money where my mouth is, and I invested my own money and built a successful career.
A career that I am proud of, and that experience is what I will bring to the Treasurer’s Office.
Drew does not have a record in finance. He is a failed politician who has run and lost two races and continues to run in hopes of advancing his career.
But I do not think politics should be considered a career. It is a public service.
Call me naïve, but I want to be your Treasurer to bring better returns to Nevada, protect taxpayers, help Nevadans save for their future and this kid’s future, and bring the Treasurer’s Office to the people.
I am running for this office, not because I need the job. I am running because Nevada needs someone who knows how to do the job.
Today was a new low for Drew.
He knows he is wrong. He should have the NRO retract the story, take down the posts, and apologize to you, the voters in Nevada.
I am a big boy, I can take it, but you deserve better than this.
Please reach out to me, and I will answer any questions about this, but more importantly, about how we can make Nevada stronger for our future!
