Catching Some Zzzzz’s

Catching Some Zzzzz’s
Chuck Muth
May 15, 2011

(Assemblyman Ed Goedhart) – In light of reports now widely circulated around the Internet of me sleeping Saturday morning during a committee hearing about the Democrats’ new proposals to jack up taxes on butchers, bakers, candle-stick makers, resume writing services, weight loss centers, haircuts, beauty salons, manicurists, pedicurists, tips, dry cleaning, laundromats, real estate commissions, taxi service, computer stores, movie tickets, oil changes, auto repair, car washes, lawn mowing, landscaping, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, roofers, travel agents, pizza delivery, bookkeeping, tax consulting, heating & air conditioning repair, thrift shops, factory outlets, caterers, party planners, estate planners, locksmiths, pawn shops, vitamin shops, housecleaning, book stores, pool service, wedding consultants, pest control services, eye-glass stores, art galleries, garden centers, bait & tackle shops, labor unions, tutoring, dog washing, fitness clubs, gym memberships, restaurants, bars, cafes, delicatessens, sub shops, yogurt shops, coffee shops, candy stores, ice cream parlors, bowling centers, handyman services, printing, tire dealers, toy stores, office supply stores, bicycle repairs, motorcycle repairs, RV repairs, muffler shops, brake repairs, carpet cleaning, flower delivery, hobby shops, watch repair, funeral homes, party rentals, accounting, gun stores, antique stores, gift stores, sporting goods stores, secretarial services, tuxedo rentals, shoe repairs, windshield repairs, art stores, health food stores, tailors, tanning salons, horseback riding lessons, ballet lessons, art lessons, music lessons, judo & karate instruction, limo services, liquor stores, notary services, golf instruction, personal trainers, video & DVD rentals, legal services, jewelers, bridal shops, appliance stores, body shops, car dealers, cemeteries, kennels, boat dealers, clothing stores, hardware stores, tuxedo rentals, dress shops, furniture stores, perfume stores, family counseling, debt counseling, dance instruction, day care services, financial management, tax services, arts & crafts stores, appliance repairs, dog training, driving instruction, ear piercing, chimney sweeps, employment agencies, photographers, videographers and baby-sitting services, I have the following statement:

I apologize.

I stayed up too late the night before for a hearing that was scheduled to start too early on a Saturday morning. Then again, had the majority party introduced their massive tax hike proposals weeks ago instead of springing it on us at the last minute with just days to go before the end of this session, there wouldn’t be a need for crack-of-dawn weekend hearings on how they wish to continue picking the pockets of Nevadans as Nevadans continue to suffer the pain of the present recession.

That said, despite the fact that I will be voting against the Democrats’ efforts to inflict further economic damage and pain on Nevada’s families and small businesses, I will do my best to stay alert and attentive to misleading and misguided arguments in favor of these harmful proposals to retard our economic recovery no matter how long, boring, repetitive, tedious, dull, mind-numbing, tiresome, annoying, interminable, banal, irksome and monotonous as they may be.

(Assemblyman Goedhart is a Republican from Amargosa Valley)
