Confident of Victory in November

(Mark Noonan) – I was reading the Pahrump Valley Times the other day and came across an article which made me think that Nye County was trying to set up a retirement home for Harry Reid, Dina Titus and all the rest of our corrupt, soon-to-be-defeated leaders.

But then I skipped down a paragraph and realized that they were just talking about a new business license for honest whores, not the political variety we get to deal with. It’s a pity – we do need some place to store them, lest they show upon TV talk shows or in newspaper Op-Eds. I figure, once they’re gone, they should be gone for good.

So, you may ask, why so confident of victory? There are polls out there showing Harry Reid ahead and others showing that Democrats, nationally, are regaining some lost ground. It’s a long way to November and the GOP isn’t called the “stupid party” for nothing.

I know all that, but I also know that the MSM likes a horse race. It sells papers and keeps people tuned in. And so true advantages and disadvantages to each side simply won’t be fully expressed. No matter what happens, the news won’t be “GOP Headed for Certain Victory”. Who would tune in after that headline?

The re-capturing of the GOP lead in voter registration in Washoe County (as reported in the Reno Gazette-Journal) is something which tells the tale. It was back in 2008 that the GOP lost that lead for the first time in ages. And that presaged not just the GOP’s loss nationally, but our crushing defeat right here at home.

It is enthusiasm which is the real driver of events in politics. As Samuel Adams put it, “It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.”

We, on our side, are very irate and very tireless – and American elections are contests between two minorities (Republicans and Democrats) to convince a third minority (Independents) to swing their way. Right now, everything is swinging the GOP’s way.

A lot can happen between now and November. The Republicans could screw up very badly. The economy could suddenly improve in dramatic fashion. Independents could suddenly decide that Harry’s the man they always loved. But if we keep our courage and keep working hard for our side, then we’ll win. Never grow complacent when the news favors us, never grow downhearted when it favors the other side.

Realize that the fierce desire you feel in your heart is felt by millions of others.
