Get Off Stupid and Get on Gibbons Education Reform Bandwagon

Get Off Stupid and Get on Gibbons Education Reform Bandwagon
Chuck Muth
January 7, 2010

(Mark Alden) – I was extremely disappointed by the storm of criticism by certain political and education leaders in our state regarding the current proposals regarding K-12 education by our duly elected Governor Jim Gibbons.

Too much politics as usual for me when we should be working together to solve the dilemma we are in for the good of our current K-12 position and especially the future education of our students.

It is quite obvious the current system of funding and spending is not working. We have an opportunity to solve problems in our K-12 system but we are stuck on stupid, internal bickering and political posturing. I was really surprised by the comments by my good friends Brian Sandoval and Rory Reid, two very fine, bright and morally bound people.

We need to take a deep breath and work together to solve problems instead of creating more. We do not need to act like the elected officials in Washington. Nevada leadership should step above the fray and consciously move forward with new ideas that the governor has suggested.

Labeling every new idea as either conservative or liberal takes us nowhere.

We should be congratulating the Governor for his K-12 proposals and working with him. Maybe they won’t work or are impractical, but the opening salvo of criticism does not work for me and possibly most Nevadans.

I’m hoping for a better way to the solve the current K-12 situation.
