Letter: Time To Reduce Nevada Sales Tax

Letter: Time To Reduce Nevada Sales Tax
N&V Staff
August 3, 2012

(Lynn Muzzy) – In his August 2 “Silver State Confidential” alert, Chuck Muth said he would no longer work to elect Republican candidate who refuses to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, stating, “I got burned BADLY taking the verbal word of Sen. Bill Raggio in the 2008 campaign that he wouldn’t raise taxes, and again by Gov. Brian Sandovalin 2010.”

Amen. I would like to know how Sandoval is helping Nevada’s recession-whipped consumers by arm-twisting Amazon into collecting sales taxes on its Nevada customers. The tax hike doesn’t hit until 2014, by which time we’re supposed to forget who made it happen.
If the problem is that Nevada retailers can’t compete with Amazon’s prices (which usually include shipping), then it’s time to cut Nevada’s sales taxes. I refer the governor to the LVRJ headline quoted in Chuck’s email: “Nevada ranks among states with highest sales tax rates.”
