Governor Highlights Public Safety Victory
Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo took to social media to celebrate a major public safety win. Federal agents arrested a dangerous criminal on Reno’s streets – and Lombardo didn’t miss the chance to connect it to policies he supports.
“Great work by ICE and U.S. Marshals in Reno today,” Lombardo wrote. “Thanks to President Trump, we’re removing criminals from communities across our state and country.”

The governor was referring to the arrest of Jairo Paredes-Cota, a 41-year-old fugitive wanted in Mexico. Federal agents captured him without incident on East Plumb Lane in Reno.
The Serious Crimes at Stake
This wasn’t just any arrest. Mexican authorities had been hunting Paredes-Cota since May 2020 for sexual abuse of a minor. Officials say he committed these terrible acts while working as a teacher at an Indigenous Community University in Sinaloa.
Making matters worse, Paredes-Cota had already been deported from the United States once before. By returning illegally, he broke U.S. immigration laws on top of fleeing justice for his alleged crimes against a child.
