Charlie Kirk was assassinated by a leftist on September 10, 2025, while he was speaking to young people at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
The board of Commissioners of Lyon County, by unanimous vote, chose to name the new building in honor of Charlie.
The building will house the Dayton Justice Court, District Attorney’s office, and a Sheriff’s substation.
Sheriff Brad Pope was excited, “We are glad to have a permanent base of operation in the heart of Dayton.”
Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony
Vida D. Keller, former Commissioner of Lyon Co. said it well:
“Charlie Kirk had a unique way of reaching our youth and making them think, not to follow but to reach deep inside themselves. We hope this building will encourage future generations to think and engage in healthy debate.”
Pastor Garry Leist of Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley lead the invocation, followed by Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony who honored Charlie with a few words. Many Republican officials from surrounding counties and the state were in attendance as well.
The event was entirely peaceful.
Many attendees indicated they are only hearing positive support from friends and neighbors about naming the building after Charlie.
