(Nevada Firearms Coalition) – In response to the visit of Mark Kelly and Gabby Giffords to the Clark County Shooting Complex (CCSC) Monday, the Nevada Firearms Coalitions wants to remind them that Nevadans overwhelmingly oppose their attacks on the 2nd Amendment.
“It is unfortunate that Kelly, Giffords and the other speakers would campaign at a public facility where taxpayers lawfully practice with their firearms,” said Don Turner, President of the Nevada Firearms Coalition (NVFAC). “Their attacks on the 2md Amendment would negatively affect all of the law-abiding Nevadans who legally use their firearms at facilities like CCSC around the country.”
After the overwhelming public outcry in opposition of Senate Bill 221, the Nevada Firearms Coalition called on Nevada’s mayors to use innovative solutions to educate and train the public about safe gun ownership rather than over-regulate law-abiding Nevadan’s 2nd Amendment rights. Turner cites the Nevada Department of Wildlife’s hunter safety program as an innovative way to promote firearm safety as an alternative to legislation and regulation.
“Nevada’s hunter safety program is an example of outside the box thinking that educates the public without removing our constitutional rights,” Turner said. “We need our elected officials to model after programs that are working within the Constitution rather than create new laws that further limit the rights of law-abiding Americans.”
Mayors oversee city resources, such as parks & recreation departments that could be utilized to offer firearms safety classes to their residents. Just as the national and Nevada’s hunter safety programs have drastically reduced firearms accidents while hunting, firearms safety classes can reduce firearms accidents and misuse within their jurisdictions without infringing on the Constitution.
(The Nevada Firearms Coalition is a Nevada non-partisan grassroots organization of gun owners dedicated to the safe and responsible use of firearms for self-defense, competition, recreation, and hunting. NVFAC is committed to working with all elected officials to develop policies that will create safe communities without infringing on Nevadan’s 2nd Amendment Rights.)
