Nevada Democrats Aren’t Saying If They Support Their Own Homegrown DSA Candidate

Cortez Masto, Rosen, Titus, Lee, Horsford, Ford: Do Any of You Support Spotleson?

A funny thing happened on the way to the Wisconsin governor's office this week.

Democrat voters had the chance to nominate Francesca Hong, a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), as their standard-bearer.

She lost. By about 3,800 votes. Out of nearly 800,000 cast. That's close. Really close.

Now here's the kicker: the biggest names in the socialist movement, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders, threw her under the bus.

They backed a different socialist-leaning candidate instead, leaving Hong hanging out to dry.

When you're too far left even for AOC and Bernie, you know you've gone off the deep end. How far to the extreme?

Hong called Thanksgiving a “colonizer holiday” back in 2020. When CNN's Kaitlan Collins asked her about it during the campaign, she said Thanksgiving is “incredibly painful for many people in our communities.”

But a few days later she changed her tune and said she actually loves the holiday. Voters noticed the flip-flopping.

Wisconsin's outgoing governor, Tony Evers, warned that Hong couldn't win in November, and he threw his support behind David Crowley instead. That last-minute move made the difference.

Even the reliably-liberal Washington Post admitted the obvious in the election's post-mortem.

Their editorial board wrote that older, working-class Democrats in rural areas and Black communities are the ones keeping their party from getting swallowed up by socialism.

That's not a Fox News talking point. That's the Washington Post saying it themselves.

Now, why should folks here in Nevada care about a governor's race in Wisconsin?

Because we've got our own DSA extremist right here in Clark County. But unlike Wisconsin, almost nobody in Nevada's Democrat Party has said a word about him.

Vinny Spotleson is running for Nevada Assembly District 41, and he's already told everyone straight out that he's a member of the Las Vegas DSA.

He said it himself on social media: “Bro I am a dues paying member of @lasvegasdsa. I have posted at their events. Not hiding anything.”

Spotleson’s said plenty of other things too – things he’ll probably start walking back now that Wisconsin has shown Democrats what happens to candidates who wear the DSA label too openly.

He's accused both the Trump AND Biden administrations of being “complicit in the genocide” in Gaza.

He's repeatedly used “fascist,” “rich fascists,” and “authoritarian propaganda” language against Republicans and other critics.

He's called federal law enforcement agents “thugs” who “murder people,” and referred to ICE as a “fake terrorist group.”

He supports New York Mayor Mamdani's rent freeze and has criticized Nevada Democrats for not making rent control a top campaign issue.

So here's my question to Nevada's Democrat elected officials in light of the Wisconsin results: Do you support Vinny Spotleson?

Do Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen endorse him? Do Representatives Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford?

Does Attorney General Aaron Ford? Does Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar? Does State Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro and Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager?

All of them have stayed quiet so far, unlike Gov. Evers in Wisconsin who spoke up when it mattered.

Silence is a choice. Until they go on the record saying otherwise, voters should assume every elected Democrat in this state is just fine handing a DSA member a seat in Carson City.

Nevada voters deserve better than silence. They deserve an answer.
