(NN&V Staff) – At their Spring meeting in Fallon on Saturday, February 15, 2014, the Nevada Republican Party passed a motion in support of the resolution against the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) previously passed by the Republican National Committee (RNC).
In passing the resolution, the RNC stated that they “…do not believe in a one size fits all approach to education and support providing broad education choices to parents and children at the State and local level.”
The resolution adopted by the RNC goes on to say, “(The) Republican National Committee recognizes the CCSS for what it is– an inappropriate overreach to standardize and control the education of our children so they will conform to a preconceived ‘normal…’
The 2012 Nevada Republican Party platform states “We support returning control of the education system to local jurisdictions and parental control”, and the Nevada Republican Party agrees with the language of the RNC resolution which states that “the Republican National Committee rejects this CCSS plan which creates…a nationwide straitjacket on academic freedom and achievement.”
Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald said, “We don’t think the Obama Administration needs to tell us how to educate Nevada students. Local school boards accountable to parents can best develop the curriculum for Nevada’s children, not a panel of “experts” in Washington DC.”
