MUTH’S TRUTHS
Some Republican legislators are already making excuses for pretty much getting nothing done in the 2025 session, blaming it on being in the minority.
No excuse. There were PLENTY of things they could have done – but either didn’t want to make the effort or are simply clueless when it comes to the *politics* and *process* of a session.
And if they don’t know how to play the game, they need to hire better staffers who do.
I’ll give you one example…
There were bills the Democrats wanted to pass – such as extending the automatic gas tax increase without a vote of the people – which required a 2/3 vote that the Democrats didn’t have, providing all Republicans stuck together and voted “no.”
But did they use this leverage to get concessions from the Democrats – such as increased funding for Opportunity Scholarships – instead of just giving them the votes they needed without getting anything more than table scraps in return?
No.
Democrats: “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?”
Again, it’s not enough to simply elect more Republicans to the Legislature. We need to elect better ones as well.
Especially when it comes to leadership in the State Assembly.
