The GOP Senator Who Helped Kill the Hollywood Handout Has a Story You Need to Hear
(Chuck Muth) – If you followed the special session of the Nevada Legislature this week, you already know one thing for sure: Senator Jeff Stone was one of the decisive votes that stopped the “Hollywood Handout.”
His vote helped kill a massive tax-credit giveaway to out-of-state studio developers and a lot of Nevadans breathed a sigh of relief because the deal was risky, expensive, and light on guaranteed results.
After a vote like that, people naturally start asking: Who is this guy? What’s his story?
Jeff Stone answers that question in his new book, The American Dream In Peril: The True Story.
And after the stand he just took in Carson City, this is the perfect time for Nevadans to learn more about him.

OOPS
In the comedy movie “Airplane,” Ted Striker is piloting the plane, guided by instructions from ground control and surrounded by panicked flight crew and passengers. As they approach the landing, voices shout out rapid-fire directions, including the memorable command, “Push a button!”
Yeah, this week has been a lot like that with me trying to keep up with the fiasco in Carson City while simultaneously trying to keep up with meetings and workshops here in Palm Springs at the annual Conservative Leaders Summit.
As such, I forgot to “push the button” to email out Tuesday’s Nevada News & Views. Didn’t notice it until this morning. Ugh.
So even though it’s now water over the bridge and under the dam, there were things in that edition which provided some important behind the scenes insight into the special session fuster-cluck. It included this observation:
“But the fault really lies in the fact that proponents of the project chose not to include conservatives in the negotiations leading up to the session. I’m not talking about wishy-washy Republicans who claim to be conservatives. I mean real ones.
“In fact, I’d argue the only real, principled conservative that you can count on in the Assembly is Assemblywoman Jill Dickman.
“And not only wasn’t Dickman consulted with in drafting the bill, the Democrats kicked her off the committee that heard the bill and inserted a guy who got appointed to his seat just a couple weeks ago.”
