(NN&V Staff) – Brad Lee Barnhill, conservative candidate for Nevada Senate District 6, has filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit filed by Citizen Outreach Foundation and Charles Muth against the Clark County Registrar of Voters, Lorena Portillo. The lawsuit, brought on behalf of the PigPen Project, seeks a writ of mandamus to compel the Registrar to process nearly 20,000 challenges to ineligible voters currently on the Clark County voter rolls.
Barnhill’s decision to intervene in the case highlights his commitment to ensuring election integrity in Nevada and underscores his belief that every legal vote counts. “As a candidate, I have a personal stake in ensuring that the election process is lawful, fair, and transparent,” said Barnhill. “The failure to properly clean up the voter rolls in Clark County threatens to dilute the voices of lawful residents in Senate District 6 and undermines the entire democratic process.”
The lawsuit, originally filed on September 23, 2024, by the Citizen Outreach Foundation, alleges that the Clark County Registrar has failed to act on 19,740 challenges to voters who may no longer be eligible to vote, including voters who have moved out of state or to other precincts. According to the Complaint, this failure not only violates Nevada election law (NRS 293.530 and NRS 293.535) but also puts the integrity of the upcoming election in jeopardy. Barnhill wholeheartedly agrees.
“I am intervening because the interests of candidates like myself are directly impacted by the inaction of the Registrar’s office,” said Barnhill. “While the plaintiffs are focused on the public interest, my campaign is personally affected by this failure. My constituents deserve an election free from the influence of ineligible voters, and as their candidate, I will stand up for their right to a fair vote.”
Barnhill’s intervention will focus on compelling the Registrar to act in accordance with Nevada’s election laws and ensure that all challenges are processed before the 2024 general election. “The integrity of our elections is non-negotiable,” Barnhill added. “Nevadans deserve to know that their votes matter, and that illegal or ineligible votes won’t tip the scales in any race.”
The PigPen Project, launched by Citizen Outreach in 2023, is dedicated to cleaning up Nevada’s voter rolls by identifying suspected ineligible voters and working with election officials to ensure those names are removed before ballots are mailed out. The lawsuit marks a significant escalation in the effort to enforce voter integrity measures statewide.
Barnhill’s campaign, which promotes transparency and fairness in government, has made election integrity a cornerstone of its platform. Running as an Independent under the endorsement of the Independent American Party of Nevada, Barnhill aims to be #YourIndependentVoice for Nevadans seeking accountable, responsible leadership.
