(Darwin Rockantansky) – Chuck, First – I wanted to thank you and Dan Burdish for putting together last night’s Bahama Breeze Brawl – well done Sir!
Having said that, I want to vent some residual emotional refuge from last night and as is true with all refuse left on the curb, it is yours to do with as you see fit….
I started to post my thoughts on the “Meet Up” page but found the size limitation too limiting.
I have met Cindy Lake on a couple of occasions and was aware of the other fellow campaigning for her job but had never had the pleasure(?) of meeting him…until last night.
You and Dan conducted yourselves in the most professional manner I have seen in many years; objectivity was the rule of the evening and you two did it well.
This is my venting…
I left the Clark County Republican Party shortly after the county convention last year and only attended this event because a friend of mine from the Las Vegas Valley Tea Party invited me; that and I was mildly curious as to the state of the CCRP after these many months of absence. I took someone’s sound advice and arrived early to insure that I could get a seat.
At some point well in advance of the announced start time, a guy swooped into the room like a bad parody of failed game show host.
I asked someone standing near by “Who is THAT slime ball?”. I was told that it was “the Dave guy” who was one of the debaters for the event.
I must admit, this guy knows how to “work a room”.
But I must also admit that to me his performance consistently evoked images of some of the less than high end female “tourist guides” who work some of the off-strip casino bars.
I had an overwhelming urge to go take another shower just being in the same room with this person.
Being hypervigilant, a blessing from a couple of combat tours in Vietnam, I was fully aware that there was one or more cameras focused on this buffoon from the moment he entered the room. As he cavorted around the room, glad-handing and back-slapping everyone in within reach, I had flash-backs of a dilettante without a promoter at a cocktail party from my years in Hollywood. It was obvious to me that he had set his sights on me and would eventually get around to me.
He did.
As he got around to our table – I was sitting with Cindy Lake and her core supporters – he approached me from the right just at the edge of my 180 degree peripheral vision and introduced himself and asked if I wanted my picture taken with him.
He is DAMNED LUCKY that I did not knock him on his ass!
And YES, I am more than physically capable (and willing) of doing the job.
I am talking about a matter of seconds here, but as my father always said: The first impression is the only impression that really counts.
The whole world knows that I am a Vietnam Veteran, ergo I am senior to this pandering fool.
But despite a possible minority opinion, I am not yet a “doddering old fool”…I think.
But that was exactly the way he approached me.
Even suggesting that I should want to have my picture taken with him was his statement to me that he was some sort of celebrity and I should be thrilled at the opportunity.
He is not and I was not.
His approach was a bold statement that he was certain that I am too stupid to realize that a photo with me would be posted on his website with some B.S. statement that he is supported by Veterans. He is NOT supported by this Veteran.
When someone I do not know approaches me in a not straight on manner, i.e. sliding up to me on the side, it sets off alarms and I will never be able to trust such a person.
Other than my wife of twenty five years, NO ONE puts hands on me without prior approval – my reactions can be unpredictable and occasionally painful for all concerned.
Before I left home for the event last night, I took a shower.
When I got home last night, I took another shower.
When I got up this morning, I took another shower.
And I still have the feeling of slime where this fool put his arm around me.
As for the debate itself, thanks to you and Dan, it was extremely well managed and again I thank the both of you; especially Dan (ask him).
In talking with various people throughout the evening, I was given a thumb-nail sketch of what rock this slug crawled out from under.
The consensus of those I spoke with was that his father is one of the most liberal RINOs in California Politics.
Watching his performance, I wondered if he was not in fact a Democrat because of his mastery of using half truths and groundless innuendo in attacking Cindy Lake.
And then the Coup de Grace…
He told someone in the crowd to “SHUT UP!” and then went on to rant and rave about “respect”.
Really?
The world is supposed to “respect” him while he shows total disrespect for anyone who does not agree with him? Really?
And one final rant…
This was a political gathering. As such this Dave person expended considerable time, money, and effort to “pack the room” with his supporters.
Great. It shows he knows the tools of his chosen craft (“craft” is the root word of “crafty”:: skillful in underhanded or evil schemes; cunning; deceitful; sly).
I would almost wager that this Dave person is not familiar with the word “shame” (and possibly other strange words like “honesty” and “integrity”; characteristics that Cindy Lake just naturally emanates) but had I been a member of his staff, I would have felt “shame” at the conduct of some of his supporters.
I was sitting in such a way as to be looking directly at a table around which there were perhaps a half dozen ladies who obviously support this Dave person.
One “lady” whom I would estimate is over fifty but under seventy became more and more excited every time Dave took the microphone.
As her excitement level increased, her sitting position decreased; i.e. she slid lower and lower in her chair.
Her performance was riveting in a very sick sort of way; I fully expected to witness a public orgasm by the time Dave reached his closing statement.
What was even more interesting to me was the reactions of some of the other ladies at that table.
One or two of them were obviously uncomfortable with her behavior and I would almost wager that one or two would never vote for this person if their life depended on it.
“Popularity Contest” is how we managed to get the “Great Prevaricator In Charge” of the current regime.
If the population of the CCRP is foolish enough to elect this individual as their leader, they deserve what will inevitably follow – the re-establishment of the “Good Ol’ Boy” club.
Based on a previous long time affiliation with the CCRP (long since terminated), I have little hope for its future and unless the We The People can turn the course being set forth by fools such as “Dave” and his supporters, then all I can say is: The CCRP truly deserves this purveyor of “Crony Capitalism”.
Chuck, thanks again and do keep up the good work.
