Not Yours to Give…Unless You’re a Nevada Democrat

Not Yours to Give…Unless You’re a Nevada Democrat
Chuck Muth
August 28, 2023

(Chuck Muth) – In his famous “Not Yours to Give” floor speech in the early 1800’s, late-Congressman Davy Crockett opposed a bill giving tax dollars to the widow of a Naval officer.  Relevant excerpts…

“I will not go into an argument to prove that Congress has no power to appropriate this money as an act of charity. Every member upon this floor knows it. We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the public money. …

“Mr. Speaker, I have said we have the right to give as much of our own money as we please. I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week’s pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do the same it will amount to more than the bill asks.”

Of course, according to Crockett’s biographer and friend…

“Not a single member of Congress offered to join him in contributing a week’s pay for the relief of the poor widow, about whose plight so many of them had waxed eloquent when they thought they were going to be spending the taxpayers’ money rather than their own.”

Indeed, it’s far easier to spend OPM – Other People’s Money.  But that doesn’t make it right. Which brings us to…

The Nevada Democrats’ ethical stench over non-profit organizations getting public dollars gets worse every day.

First, on Friday we discovered that Assemblywoman Michelle “Quid Pro Quo” Gorelow got an executive position at The Arc just days after voting to give the non-profit organization $250,000 in tax money.

This after an amendment to the bill CUT $250,000 from the Special Olympics!

Then we found out that Assemblywoman Tracy Brown-May voted to give The Arc the $250,000 – which was used to hire Gorelow – even though she’s on The Arc’s Board of Directors.

Today an alert reader advised that Brown-May is also the Chief Administrative Officer for Opportunity Village – which got $250,000 from the “Christmas Tree” bill that she voted for.

But, hey, I’m sure they didn’t use their official office as legislators to raid the taxpayers’ piggy bank to funnel public dollars to their favorite charities, right?  Yeah, right.

The whole thing stinks on ice – especially considering how every Democrat opposed using unspent COVID relief money to restore Democrat cuts to the Opportunity Scholarship program for low-income, mostly-minority students.

They were full-throated in their opposition to using “public dollars” to fund the private Scholarship Grant Organizations who distribute the scholarships to needy families, but they’re suddenly radio silent on the burgeoning scandal of voting for public dollars for private non-profits in which the legislators have more than a passing interest.

What’s Democrat Assembly Speaker Steve “Donut Boy” Yeager have to say about it?

What does Democrat Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui and Assistant Majority Leader C.H. Miller have to say about it?

What does Democrat Assemblywoman Danielle Monroe-Moreno – who also happens to be chair of the Nevada Democrat Party – have to say about it?

Nothing.  They’ve clammed up. Cat’s got their tongues.  They’re hiding out.

Or maybe hiding something themselves.  I wonder who else has been dipping their greasy fingers in the candy dish?  Unethical cowards all.

The Democrat mantra is and continues to be: What’s mine is mine and what’s yours is…mine also.  Shameful even for these most shameless of politicians.

SAVE THE DATE: Northern/Rural Campaign Training

Now that Gov. Lombardo reached deep into his pocket and paid me the princely sum of $1 last week to help him “get sh*t done,” I’m ready to hit the road with campaign training workshops in northern/rural Nevada.

The workshops will be hosted by Citizen Outreach Foundation’s non-partisan “Campaign Management College” project.  They’ll be open to the public and – again thanks to Gov. Lombardo’s generosity – will be FREE to attend.

But you can always follow the governor’s lead and shell out a “One Buck Chuck” if you’d like at the door!

Which reminds me: Healthy, shiny red apples are frowned upon by your professor.  But bottles of Malibu Coconut Rum will get you a gold star!

I now have four locations confirmed and venues* secured for this first rural swing after Labor Day…

  • Elko on Wednesday, September 6
  • Reno on Saturday, September 9
  • Tonopah on Monday, September 11
  • Pahrump on Tuesday, September 12

The weeknight workshops will run from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  The Saturday “Campaign Boot Camp” in Reno will run from 10:00 to 4:00 pm.

Exact locations, details on what we’ll be covering, and an online registration form will be finalized in the next day or so. But pencil us in now if you can join us.

* A number of you reached out and suggested we do the Pahrump training at the Nye County GOP headquarters.  However, I’ve been informed the party chair wouldn’t approve it.  Fortunately, I’m 99% sure we’ve found a different location.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Queen dropped its popular song ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ from its greatest hits collection in what the Daily Mail newspaper says is to avoid criticism from America’s modern woke cancel culture. The hard-rocking tribute to a young man’s appreciation of fuller-figured ladies was written in 1978.” – Sherman Frederick, Ely Times
