Quid Pro Quo Gorelow…GONE!

Quid Pro Quo Gorelow…GONE!
Chuck Muth
September 1, 2023

(Chuck Muth) – As noted in yesterday’s Muth’s Truths, I filed an ethics complaint against Democrat Assemblywoman Michelle “Quid Pro Quo” Gorelow over her vote to give $250,000 public tax dollars to a nonprofit organization that hired her as executive director just days later.

Less than 24 hours later she announced she will NOT be running for re-election next year!

To be fair, it was Taylor Avery of the Las Vegas Review-Journal who broke the story a week ago.  And the “Lombardo Machine” was absolutely relentless in going after her.

My complaint might have just been the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Unfortunately, Ms. Quid Pro Quo did not resign her seat – which means she’ll still be able to cast unethical voters if a special session is called before the November ’24 general election.

Also, she hasn’t quit the job she got after unethically voting to give her employer $250,000 in public tax dollars which is being used to pay her salary.

Reminder: Republicans need to flip one seat in the Assembly next year to get out of the super-minority.  While it would have been great to run against a scandal-plagued incumbent, the seat is now “open.”

Either way, it’s a prime pick-up opportunity.

But back to Quid-Pro-Quo-gate…

After filing my ethics complaint against Gorelow, Ms. Avery of the Review-Journal reached Assemblywoman Tracy Brown-May – who’s on the board of directors for the non-profit that profited from Gorelow’s vote – and was asked about the complaint.

You’re not going to believe her response…

“I don’t know why there would be an ethics complaint against someone for starting a new job.”

Holy schitzel!

This had NOTHING to do with “someone starting a new job.”  What planet does this woman live on?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch…

Believe it or not, a high-ranking Nevada GOP leader came to Gorelow’s defense.

Yes, you read that right.

In response to ethics complaint I filed, Republican National Committeewoman Sigal Chattah criticized the complaint and tweeted…

“Probably a good idea to familiarize with the law before playing lawyer.”

Lovely.  Talk about “uni-party”!  Or is she just a Democrat plant?

Regardless, nobody was “playing lawyer” here.

In fact, I specifically noted in my complaint that Nevada’s ethics law “is not written in plain English that the average citizen can understand” and, therefore, I asked the Commission to “use its experience, resources, and authority to investigate this matter.”

I also concluded in the complaint a request that the Commission “use this investigation to advocate for any necessary changes in NRS to protect the public from what clearly appears to be unethical behavior by this public officer.”

If the Ethics Commission determines it has no power to investigate the alleged unethical actions of a state legislator or legislators, hopefully this case will shine a bright public light on this mess and changes can be made.

Sadly, the Chattah Box’s defense of Gorelow & Company was the only thing coming out of the Nevada Republican Party before the announcement that Gorelow won’t be seeking re-election.

This scandal was the “talk of the town” in Nevada political circles for a week without a peep from the Nevada GOP.  It was as “radio silent” as Democrat Speaker Steve “Donut Boy” Yeager and his Assembly accomplices.

In any event, after the first inning it’s…

  • Lombardo Machine: 1
  • Reid Machine: 0

“Now up at the plate, playing FAR-LEFT field, Democrat Assemblyman C.H. Miller.”

Jessica Hill of the LVRJ published a new story this morning exposing how Miller voted for $100,000 to go to his Urban Chamber non-profit he works for, which he conveniently – I’m sure it was just an oversight (not) – forgot to list on his Financial Disclosure Report.

Talk about a culture of corruption!

Have a safe and fun Labor Day.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“A (Nevada presidential) caucus and a primary will be chaotic. People are confused about which to go to. The caucus in the past has been a circus and time consuming. People are pissed. I just won’t vote if they have a caucus and will ignore the primary result. Why bother?” – Name withheld

“I don’t understand much about politics…” – Liberal blubber-blogger Jon Ralston, 1/2/20
