What the DSA's New Platform Says About the Man Running Against Me.
Imagine a group wanted to get rid of the U.S. Senate. Get rid of the Supreme Court. Let Congress pick our president instead of you. Sounds crazy, right?
It's not a hypothetical. It's a real platform from a real group. And my opponent in Assembly District 41 belongs to it.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) just released a new platform called “Workers Deserve More.”
It calls for drafting a new constitution with major changes to how our government works, including abolishing the Senate, replacing the president and the Supreme Court with leaders picked by Congress, and letting all permanent U.S. residents vote.
That last one means non-citizens picking your state lawmakers.
Vinny Spotleson, my opponent, is a dues-paying member of the Las Vegas DSA. Voters deserve to know that before they head to the polls this fall.
Now, not every DSA-aligned candidate signs onto every single item on that list.
Progressive and DSA-backed candidates running in primaries across the country don't all subscribe to the group's full agenda. That's fair to point out.
But here's the thing about joining an organization. You're telling people what you stand for. And the DSA's own leadership isn't hiding the ball.
The group's co-chair, Megan Romer, went on “Fox News Sunday” and confirmed parts of the agenda, while admitting some proposals, like abolishing borders and prisons, are part of a longer-term plan.
Read that again. Abolishing prisons.
In a state like Nevada, where we already deal with real public safety concerns in our neighborhoods, that's not a philosophy we can afford to experiment with.
Republicans across the country are sounding the alarm, and they're not wrong to.
House Speaker Mike Johnson called it out on X, warning that communism is no longer a far-off threat and that Democrats are welcoming it in.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz put it bluntly, saying “these people are insane.”
Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise warned that these ideas could be coming to a community near you sooner than folks think.
Even some Democrats are worried.
Former DNC chair Jaime Harrison pushed back hard on DSA-aligned candidates running under the Democratic banner, saying if you hate the Democratic Party, don't run for its nomination and don't use its resources, volunteers, or infrastructure.
When leaders in the other party are raising red flags, Nevada voters should be paying attention too.
Here's why this matters close to home.
AD41 includes Nevada families who care about safe neighborhoods, good schools, and a government that doesn't spend money it doesn't have.
A candidate who belongs to a group pushing to abolish the Senate, hand voting rights to non-citizens, and eventually do away with prisons is not a candidate who shares those values.
This isn't about scare tactics. It's about reading the platform for yourself and asking a simple question: Do you want that agenda showing up in Carson City?
I believe in limited government, personal responsibility, and public safety that actually keeps families safe.
I believe Nevada taxpayers deserve lawmakers who respect their money and their Constitution, not lawmakers cheering on plans to rewrite it.
Voters in AD41 have a real choice this November.
One path leads toward common sense and accountability. The other leads toward an agenda that even some Democrats say has no business in their own party.
