(Mark Noonan) – Ah, that great line from the song by The Who. The perfect theme for the 2010 campaign.
On Saturday, I’ll be heading out to Searchlight, Nevada along with many thousands of other patriots from Nevada and around the country. Why are we gathering? Given that we are not mind-numbed liberals, there will be as many reasons as there are people. Free people do not demonstrate on cue.
The primary initial purpose is, of course, to start the ball rolling on getting rid of Harry Reid. Our man Harry has been a barnacle on Nevada and national politics for decades and its time to show him the door (and bar the door to his little boy, too). But in a very real sense this is the start of a revolution in American politics.
The tired, old ways of the past 80 years or so are finished. Our nation is bankrupt. Our State is bankrupt. Our people are either out of work or fearful of losing their jobs. Our schools don’t work. Our government is corrupt and oppressive. Our society is a tattered waste land of broken homes, broken families, broken people. Now is, indeed, the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country.
And that is what we will start on Saturday, in Searchlight.
We have awakened here in Nevada. I think, if anything, it was the obscene spectacle of the “special session” which tore the last mask off of government. They got it wrong in 2009. They have got it wrong in 2010. They’ll get it wrong in 2011. Unless we change things.
For 80 years we’ve had liberals telling us that they’ll make everything all better for us. For the same time we have had conservatives tinkering around the edges of the Welfare State. Puttering about with lower taxes – a good thing, of course – but never attacking the root of the beast. The lies have been exposed – we know that government can’t do it for us.
Government can’t educate our children. It can’t provide for our old folks. It can’t give us jobs. It can’t have us live in amity. All it can do it tax, spend and enervate. The golden goose is nearly killed, and here now is our chance to make those fundamental changes to restore our State and our Nation to the Founders’ vision.
We won’t get fooled, again. No one is going to buy the story that government anything can do worthwhile things for us. Reid’s ObamaCare was the swan song of the old ways. They rammed it through – and by so doing, made sure that the people will rise up to throw them out.
We will restore our Republic, and become once again the America of the American Dream.
