I sell homes for a living. Lately, I’ve also been welcoming a lot of new neighbors. And I’m glad they’re here.
As a real estate agent in Henderson and a candidate for Assembly District 19, I’ve seen firsthand what the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently confirmed:
Wealthy families from California and Washington are pouring into Southern Nevada to escape high taxes and heavy-handed government.
The Review-Journal called it a “full-scale migration of wealth.” That sounds about right.
Agents told the paper that people are leaving places like Seattle and the Bay Area because of capital gains taxes, proposed millionaire and billionaire taxes, and nonstop regulation.
One broker shared that selling a $4 million home in Washington can mean a $300,000 tax hit. Nevada? Zero state income tax.
That difference matters. I see it every week.
People are shocked by how far their money goes here. Bigger homes. Safer neighborhoods. Lower taxes. Less red tape. A better shot at building a future for their kids.
That’s why Henderson keeps growing.
Redfin data shows Los Angeles, Seattle, and San Francisco as the top sources of people searching for homes here.
The company estimates about 720 Seattle households alone looked toward Henderson late last year. U-Haul also ranked Henderson as a top in-migration city for 2025.
This isn’t an accident. Nevada works because we’ve kept government smaller and taxes lower.
Here’s the Part That Worries Me
Too many newcomers arrive, then start complaining. They want more programs. More rules. More spending. More “help.”
In other words, they want the same big government that made their home states so expensive and unlivable in the first place.
That’s like leaving a restaurant because the food made you sick – then asking the next place to cook it the same way.
California’s leaders created this mess. Years of reckless spending. Endless regulations. And now talk of billionaire taxes backed by people like Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Those policies chased families and businesses out. Now many of those families are here.
I welcome them. Truly. But I also want to say this with respect: please don’t vote Nevada into becoming California!
Growth Is Good – Losing Our Values Is Not
Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero told the Review-Journal that our city is seeing slower, steadier growth now, which helps plan for roads, police, and services.
That’s smart. That’s responsible. But it only works if we keep our budgets in check and our priorities straight.
Nevada doesn’t need California-style politics. We don’t need massive new taxes. We don’t need layers of regulations telling small businesses how to breathe.
We need safe streets. Good schools. Fair taxes. And leaders who treat taxpayer money like it’s their own. That’s common sense.
Critics say we should “invest more” by growing government.
But I’ve watched what that looks like across state lines. It starts with good intentions and ends with higher taxes, higher housing costs, and families getting squeezed.
I don’t want that here.
I’m running for Assembly because I believe in limited government, personal responsibility, and protecting what makes Nevada special.
If we stay focused on freedom and fiscal discipline, we can grow without losing ourselves.
People moved here for a reason. Let’s not forget what that reason was.
