If you want to know where a candidate plans to take your state, don’t listen to the slogans. Watch who’s writing the checks.
This week, California Gov. Gavin Newsom sent a fundraising email that should grab the attention of every Nevada voter.
In it, Newsom asked donors to split contributions between two candidates. One in Minnesota. The other right here in Nevada.
Attorney General Aaron Ford, now running for governor.
That alone tells you plenty.
When the Far Left Picks Favorites
Newsom does not raise money casually. He said so himself. When he sends an email, he claims, it’s because the moment matters.
So why is California’s disaster-of-a-governor suddenly focused on Nevada?
Because Nevada is one of the last speed bumps standing between the far-left agenda and total regional control of the West.
Newsom called Nevada a “toss-up” and warned donors that the state currently has a Republican governor who “stands lock-step with President Trump.”
That governor is Joe Lombardo.
And that is exactly the problem for the progressive donor class.
In the email, Newsom attacks President Donald Trump and former White House adviser Stephen Miller, blaming them for law enforcement actions and unrest in other states.
He argues that Democratic governors are needed to “stand in the breach” against federal enforcement.
That line should stop Nevadans cold. Translated into plain English, it means this:
Progressive leaders want governors who will block federal law enforcement, resist border security, and look the other way when laws are inconvenient.
That’s not moderation. That is open defiance.
Aaron Ford’s Political Circle Is No Accident
Ford’s embrace by Newsom is not a one-off.
He’s also received praise and support from some of the most aggressive voices on the far left, including Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a national figure known more for viral cable TV moments than for serious governance.
These are not accidental endorsements. They are signals.
They say Ford is viewed as reliable. Predictable. Aligned.
Aligned with higher spending, softer law enforcement, and more control coming out of Washington and Sacramento.
Nevadans do not have to imagine what far-left governance looks like. They can look west.
California is losing residents, losing businesses, and losing public trust.
High taxes. Sky-high housing costs. Growing crime. Endless regulations.
That is the model now being quietly pitched for Nevada.
Supporters of Ford argue he would bring balance or compassion. But the fundraising pitch tells a different story.
This race matters to Newsom because he believes Nevada can be flipped and used as a buffer against conservative leadership at the national level.
Nevada would not be governed for Nevadans. It would be governed as a strategy.
Why Lombardo Matters More Than Ever
Gov. Lombardo has been a steady chief executive who’s been hamstrung by a hostile Democrat-controlled Legislature.
But he has pushed back on runaway spending, defended law enforcement, and resisted pressure to turn Nevada into a West Coast clone.
That independence is exactly why national Democrats want him gone.
Supporting Lombardo is not about party loyalty. It is about keeping Nevada’s decisions in Nevada.
When California’s governor starts fundraising for Nevada’s attorney general, believe him. This race matters. And the future of Nevada is very much on the ballot.
