(Chuck Muth) – Ugh! It’s been one disaster after another the last twelve months.
First, a woman blew through a red light last October, t-boned me, and totaled my car.
Then Sigal Chattah got elected as Nevada’s Republican National Committeewoman.
And yesterday, a string of concrete barriers the county set up a few months ago a block from my house diverted flash flood waters down my street, completely obliterating the north wall in our yard.
That wall’s been standing for some 60 years. And they don’t make walls like that one – with stone rather than brick or block – any longer. Probably can’t be replaced. Really sad.
Once the wall came down, the flood waters rushed into our yard, creating a mini-lake.
And the small casita behind the house, which I use as a home-office, ended up with two feet of water in it.
Fortunately, I was home at the time and was able to get my computer and other electronics out before the water filled it.
You can see the water mark showing the water almost reaching as high as the window. Fortunately, I won’t have to use that darned treadmill any longer!
Our street and driveway are completely blocked off with rocks, boulders, mud and…a toilet!
But at least the rabbits didn’t die!
And fortunately I’m not trapped up at Burning Man like my friend and president of Americans for Tax Reform, Grover Norquist.
But I got a text from him this morning and he’s OK.
Unfortunately, under the circumstances, I have to cancel/postpone my rural/northern Nevada campaign training tour this week.
I’m going to be busy drying out, cleaning up the mess, and maybe dealing with insurance companies.
Thing is, I don’t even know if I have flood insurance since our home had never been in a flood zone before the county erected those concrete barriers.
You can see how powerful the flood waters were. Look at how far off the line they got pushed. And those things are HEAVY.
Is there a lawyer in the house?
And I’m gonna need a temporary fence so the dogs can’t run away. Not sure who to call. Suggestions?
But neither rain, nor sleet, nor raging flash flood waters will keep me from my appointed duties. I was working on today’s usual Muth’s Truths column yesterday before Koda and I had to flee the office.
I’ll be back in the saddle ASAP, but it might be a couple days or so. Don’t touch that dial!
FAMOUS LAST WORDS
“We need this rain.” – Democrat Assembly Speaker Steve “Donut Boy” Yeager, 9/1/23
I have two words for Mr. Yeager…and the first one isn’t “Thank.”
