(Chuck Muth) – A couple weeks ago, Jose Hernandez – an illegal street vendor selling juice in front of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign – resisted arrest and shoved a police officer to the ground after being told to skedaddle.Subsequent to the arrest, it was discovered he was an illegal alien from Mexico who somehow snuck into the country through Joe Biden’s open border in California just a few months ago. He has a wife and 14-year-old daughter, though news reports don’t indicate if they, too, are in our country illegally. Hernandez was picked up by ICE after his release from the Clark County jail. He had a deportation hearing on Wednesday and was represented by Democrat Assemblyman Edgar Flores, who got the illegal alien released on a token $2,500 bond – which likely equated to $375 cash. Flores argued Hernandez was not a flight risk and poses no danger to the community. I’m not buying it. The guy was certainly willing to take the risk of fleeing into our country illegally, was certainly willing to operate a food business illegally, and was certainly willing to assault a police officer. Flores excused Hernandez’s behavior by blaming elected officials over “confusion” about a new law authorizing street vendors that hasn’t gone into effect yet. “All of the sudden you arrest somebody for doing what the state and county had a responsibility to (educate) the community (about),” Flores said to the Nevada Independent. So much for the American notion that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Oh, and by the way, Hernandez had been warned not to sell his juice illegally – especially with no known sanitary standards in place – the day before and came back the next day anyway. Another excuse for Hernandez refusing to comply with the law and resisting arrest was a language barrier. I’m not buying that either. It’s clear from the various videos that captured the incident that Hernandez was speaking English. So that dog won’t hunt. And what a uniformed law enforcement officer holding a taser wants you to do is pretty easily understood in any language. Flores went on to say Hernandez will now avoid immediate deportation by filing an application for asylum, arguing that he fled “violent conditions” in Mexico and would be “subject to persecution and be killed as soon as he enters his homeland.” I’m not buying it. Hernandez has reportedly been in our country illegally since last April 5. If he truly fled violent conditions and would be killed if he was caught and returned to Mexico, then why the hell didn’t he file for asylum as soon as he got here? Like most criminals, he’s not sorry for what he did. He’s sorry he got caught. And the reason he got caught was that he was operating a business illegally and after being told to stop he assaulted a police officer. CLEARLY, he wasn’t ignorant of the new law. He just decided to ignore it. So his arrest was HIS fault, not because of “racial profiling on a daily basis to get our folks,” as alleged by illegal immigration advocate Yesenia Moya. At a protest rally supporting Hernandez last week, advocates for illegal immigration denounced the “polimigra” – immigration police. “We’re here to talk about the polimigra,” Moya bloviated, “and how ICE and police collude together to deport our people.” Look, unlike many hard-liners on this issue, I’m open to a reasonable solution to the problem, exasperated by Biden, of illegal immigration. And I’m open to discussing proposals that would allow *some* illegal immigrants who have been here for years – sometimes decades – and have been law-abiding members of the community to remain in-country under stringent conditions. But thanks to Democrats in Congress – who insist on blanket amnesty and a path to citizenship for those who have broken into the country while others who have played by the rules and applied for entry LEGALLY continue to wait in line – the current laws on the books are the laws on the books. The illegal alien community’s beef should NOT be with our law enforcement officers. They’re doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing: enforcing the laws as they exist, not as illegal aliens wish they were. This demonization of ICE and Metro needs to stop. You don’t like the law, change it. Otherwise, abide by it or suffer the consequences. Including deportation. Or does “no one is above the law” only apply to Donald Trump? FAMOUS LAST WORDS “If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn’t enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that, right? Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee full access to all public and social services this society provides. And that’s a lot of services. Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense at county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers?” – Late Democrat U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid Mr. Muth is president of Citizen Outreach, publisher of Nevada News & Views, and founder of CampaignDoctor.com.
