(Robert Kessler) – Boy, this is complicated. Chicago’s Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Presidential Chief of Staff, wants to block any further expansion of the Chick-fil-a chain inChicago. (newsmax.com, 2012/07/26). Chick-fil-a President Dan Cathy actively supports traditional marriage and Mayor Emanuel has decided to side with gay marriage advocates, stating that Mr. Cathy’s views are not consistent with Chicago’s values. Mr. Cathy, take those jobs someplace else.
But just a few days ago the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Mayor Emanuel welcomed the help of Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakahn in patrollingChicago’s crime ridden streets. (suntimes.com). It appears that Mayor Emanuel is willing to overlook Farrakahn’s avowed anti-gay positions and even his toxic anti-Semitism (Mayor Emanuel is Jewish). Does Emanuel consider Farrakahn’s views more consistent with Chicago’s values?
But then there’s that anti-gay thing . . .
I’m confused. I don’t know how Rahm Emanuel sorts all this out in his own mind. But I suggest he pay attention to one of former Texas Congressman Dick Armey’s axioms, “When you make a deal with the Devil, you’re the junior partner.”
