The following letter was sent to Nevada Republican Party Chairman Mark Amodei over the weekend about all those “Republicans for Reid” (Hat tip: Jon Ralston)
Chairman Amodei,
I am writing this as a concerned Republican, a member of the Nevada Republican Central Committee, and a supporter of our recently elected nominees to represent Nevada. At this time, our party should be uniting behind the candidates chosen by the Republican voters of our state, or at least not be vocal and public about their misgivings about said Republican candidates. However, there are many who are choosing not to follow this, but have chosen to publically support Harry Reid in his reelection fight.
There are two situations that I would like to see addressed by you, Mr. Chairman. The first is elected Republican leaders joining the group of “Republicans for Reid”, which includes Bob Cashell, Geno Martini, Susan Holecheck, David Aiazzi, and Rusty Tybo. If any of these leaders are members of the state Republican Central Committee, I request that you purge their names forthwith, as true Republicans in this fight would not be publically abandoning their party nominee to support a Liberal Socialist like Harry Reid. These people should no longer be members of the Nevada Republican Central Committee as they have publically declared their defiance to the party nominee in the US Senate race. Furthermore, there should be no further support by the State Republican Party for these candidates in any future races. They should be isolated and eventually eliminated from their respective offices. This is a time for unity, not a time for division. I may not have been happy with the results in some of the statewide and local races, but I fully intend on supporting our Republican candidates this fall. Elected leaders who have been elected as Republicans should be doing the same, not going off the reservation. For these soon to be retired politicians, please reference Arlen Specter.
The second situation is the CEO of Station Hotels, which owns the Green Valley Ranch where Republicans are gathering to have our state convention, has also joined the group “Republicans for Reid”. This is an outrage, that this particular business leader would bite the hand that feeds him when his company is already circling the drain. This will not keep me from attending the convention, although I believe it should be immediately changed to another venue, one whose CEO has not joined “Republicans for Reid”. This may be an impossible task at this point, but please consider this request.
However, the only price that I plan on paying for this convention is admission. I will not open my wallet in the Green Valley Ranch for any food, beverage, gambling, or a room night. This is a message that I will also impress upon anyone I can. The only way to pay back a business owner for taking such an public stand is hit him in the wallet. I am not a rich person, and I refuse to spend any more of my hard earned money in any establishment or business that will stand as a “Republican for Reid”. This includes the Findlay Auto Group, the Peppermill Hotel and Casino, UNR football as long as Chris Ault is head coach, MGM Mirage properties, any event in the Thomas and Mack Center, Kidd Realty, the Resort at Red Hawk, the Grill at Quail Corners, and any construction company whose CEO or President has joined “Republicans for Reid”.
These business people can take any stand they want, but, as Republicans, we should let them garner their business from Liberal Socialists and not from any upstanding member of the GOP. We can vote with our wallets, Mr. Chairman. The money that I save not spending at these businesses will go to the competitors of these businesses that do not support Harry Reid, and by association Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and President Obama.
I anxiously await your response.
Sincerely,
James Smack
Republican State Central Committee Member, Churchill County
Delegate to the 2010 Nevada State Republican Convention
