(Chris Woodward) – Four projects in Nevada are getting nearly $19 million total in federal funds to improve road safety.
U.S. Sens Jacky Rosen’s office announced the $18,957,436 total in grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The four projects include traffic safety improvement in East Las Vegas ($8,377,460), the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s regional safety plan ($1,508,000), East Sixth Street road improvements in Reno ($8,963,112), and the development of a safety action plan for the Shoshone Paiute Tribes ($108,864).
Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto said the funding “will save lives by helping Nevada communities implement pedestrian safety plans and make vital infrastructure improvements.”
Funding for the Safe Streets and Roads for All grants comes from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. Nationally, USDOT is awarding 385 grants totaling $817 million.
“Through the Safe Streets and Roads for All program, we have now announced safety funding going directly to communities representing 70% of the people living in this country,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. “We are acting to confront the crisis of safety on our nation’s roads, helping communities work to reduce traffic deaths to the only acceptable number: zero.”
