Business Courts: A New Era for Nevada’s Economy?

Posted By

(Kaeley Cook, Nevada Policy) – Nevada was not built to sit politely while other states take the lead.

We compete.

In the 2025 legislative session, Assembly Joint Resolution No. 8 (AJR 8) cleared its first required approval. The proposal would authorize the creation of a dedicated business court in Nevada — specialized judges, focused rules, and clear jurisdiction over complex commercial disputes.

In plain English: when serious business conflicts arise, they would be handled by judges who specialize in serious business conflicts.

Because AJR 8 is a constitutional amendment, it must pass the Legislature again before going to voters statewide.

Which means the hard part starts now.

Before lawmakers cast another vote, and before this question lands on a statewide ballot, the case for Nevada to establish a dedicated business court as a competitive advantage must be researched thoroughly, documented carefully, and explained clearly.

And then it must be put to work and that is where we need your help! Together, we will:

  • Put the white paper directly on the desks of legislators before the next vote.
  • Arm coalition partners and key business leaders with credible analysis to testify before the legislature with confidence.
  • Educate the public of the widespread benefits before the ballot initiative appears statewide.

When voters see this question, it should not feel sudden.

It should feel familiar.
Thoughtful.
Understood.

That level of preparation does not happen by accident.

We are raising $50,000 to ensure this effort is executed at the level it deserves:

  • Completing comprehensive research and economic analysis
  • Providing professional design and publication of the report
  • Directly placing the white paper into the hands of legislators, coalition partners, and key business before the 2027 legislative session
  • Distributing public education materials to prepare voters ahead of the ballot initiative

This investment ensures the white paper does not sit on a website. It becomes a working document that shapes legislative debate and public understanding.

Nevada has the chance to strengthen its position as a serious place to do business.
