The Left is Melting Down Over New School Choice Option in Nevada

Liberals are in full panic mode. Their newest talking point?

President Trump’s Education Freedom Tax Credit is a “reckless scheme” that will “drain public schools,” “invite fraud,” and “tie Nevada’s hands.”

That’s the claim pushed in the Nevada Independent by activist groups like Educate Nevada Now.

They want you scared. They want you confused. And they definitely don’t want parents realizing they finally have leverage.

So let’s clear the smoke.

What They’re Claiming

Democrats and their media allies say:

The program lacks oversight. Private schools will discriminate. Gov. Lombardo “jumped in too fast.” Conservatives are secretly plotting to dismantle public education.

Blah, blah, blah. But here’s what they’re NOT telling you.

First big fact: This program costs Nevada zero dollars.

Read that again. Zero.

It’s funded by private donations, not state money. Donors get a federal tax credit of up to $1,700. That’s it.

No checks from Carson City. No raids on Nevada classrooms.

Yet Democrats keep chanting “drains resources.” That’s like saying your neighbor donating coats to Goodwill somehow emptied your closet. Makes no sense.

To the contrary, the U.S. Department of Education and Treasury estimate this program could generate $24 billion a year in new education funding nationwide.

Every $1 billion helps about 77,000 students attend a school of their choice or gives tutoring to more than 300,000 kids.

Those numbers come straight from the feds, not conservative bloggers. The Indy admits it. They just bury it halfway down the story.

The Real Reason They’re Mad

Here’s the ugly truth: School choice breaks the government monopoly.

For decades, Democrats treated families like captives. Your ZIP code decides your school. Your income decides your options. And the unions always get paid.

Now parents get a say. That terrifies them.

Take Wendy Florez, who runs Zion Christian Academy in North Las Vegas. Her school has 14 students. Small classes. Individual attention. Kids catching up in reading and math.

She says scholarships help families who’d otherwise be stuck. Her words:

“We need more schools to be opened so kids are not crowded in classrooms. We need more help.”

That’s not ideology. That’s reality.

Meanwhile, Nevada ranks near the bottom nationally in per-pupil spending and outcomes. Democrats have run this system for years.

How’s that working out?

Nevada Democrats Show Their Hand

Democrat gubernatorial hopefuls wasted no time attacking Lombardo.

A spokesman for Aaron Ford even claimed Trump’s policies will “drag our education system further down.”

That’s rich. Ford and his allies have controlled Nevada education for years. We’re already near the basement.

Washoe County Chair Alexis Hill called the program “draconian.”

Draconian? Giving parents options is draconian? Tell that to families stuck on waitlists. Tell that to kids crammed into 35-student classrooms.

The conservative view is simple. Money should follow students. Parents know their kids better than bureaucrats. Competition improves quality.

And no family should be trapped in a failing school because politicians like control more than results.

Governor Lombardo said opting in was a no-brainer. He’s right. It expands choice. It costs Nevada nothing. And it gives working families a shot.

Ask yourself this: If the program is so terrible, why are private educators hopeful? Why are parents lining up? And why are Democrats screaming before the rules are even written?

Here’s your answer: Because once parents get power, the old system starts to crack.

And that scares the heck out of them.
