Here we go again.
Another press conference in Washington. Another bill that sounds nice on paper. And another swing at women’s sports.
Today, Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington reintroduced H.Res. 1058, known as the Transgender Bill of Rights, outside the U.S. Capitol.
Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal announces her “Trans Bill of Rights,” which would allow men to invade women’s sports and restrooms, pushes for the genital mutilation of children, and codifies abortion nationwide.
She then says that those who oppose radical transgenderism are just… pic.twitter.com/gydZOyBaRv

According to Congress.gov, it’s a nonbinding resolution. That means it doesn’t directly change the law.
But it does lay out a blueprint for where Democrats in Congress want to take this country.
And yes, that includes women’s sports.
Jayapal said in the press conference that critics of what she calls transgender rights are “jealous” of trans people and their freedom to be who they are.
Jealous.
That’s a strange word to use when we’re talking about protecting girls’ sports teams and locker rooms.
What the Resolution Actually Pushes
This resolution urges the federal government to amend civil rights law to include gender identity.
Outlets like Newsweek and the Washington Blade report that this would require access to restrooms, shelters, prisons, and athletic programs based on self-identified gender instead of biological sex.
It also supports access to gender-affirming care, including hormones and surgeries, and opposes state bans on such treatments for minors if deemed medically appropriate.
The Transgender Law Center calls it a “landmark” step. It even ties abortion access into the broader framework of reproductive rights.
Ninety-five House Democrats – including Nevada Rep. Dina Titus, a co-sponsor – have signed on, according to GovTrack.
Supporters frame this as safety and dignity. Critics see something very different.
Nevada Isn’t Washington, D.C.
Here in Nevada, Gov. Joe Lombardo has backed a ballot initiative to protect women’s sports. I’m proud to be one of the co-sponsors.
Why?
Because fairness still matters. Biology matters. And girls deserve a level playing field.
This isn’t about being mean. It’s about common sense.
If your daughter trains for years to earn a spot on a team, she shouldn’t lose it to a biological male who has clear physical advantages. That’s not jealousy. That’s basic fairness.
Even The Wall Street Journal has reported on cases nationwide where female athletes lost podium spots or scholarships in competitions that allowed biological males to compete in women’s divisions.
Those are real girls. Real dreams. Real consequences. Yet we’re told the real problem is that we’re “threatened.”
No. We’re protective.
Religious Freedom and Parental Rights
Another major concern is religious liberty.
The resolution calls for overriding certain religious exemptions that might deny services. That’s not limited government. That’s federal overreach.
Parents are also right to ask questions about irreversible medical procedures for minors.
European countries like Sweden and the United Kingdom have scaled back some pediatric gender treatments due to concerns about long-term evidence.
That’s not hate. That’s caution. When government starts telling parents they have no say, we’ve crossed a line.
A Resolution Today. A Mandate Tomorrow?
Supporters say this is only symbolic. Maybe. But symbols matter. They signal intent.
We’ve already seen more than 500 state-level bills introduced since 2025 addressing transgender issues, according to advocacy groups. This resolution is part of that national tug-of-war.
The House is currently Republican-controlled, so the odds of this passing are slim. But ideas don’t disappear just because a resolution fails.
They come back. Stronger. And usually with more strings attached.
The Real Fight
Jayapal says they will “win this fight.”
Maybe. But here in Nevada, we’re fighting too.
We’re fighting for girls who want to compete. For parents who want a voice. For faith communities that don’t want Washington rewriting their beliefs.
This isn’t about jealousy. It’s about justice.
And if protecting our daughters’ sports teams makes us old-fashioned, I’ll wear that label proudly. Because common sense never goes out of style.
