A new name is officially on the board in Nevada’s 2026 legislative races.
Dr. Christopher Brandlin has announced he’s running for the Nevada Assembly in District 42, launching a campaign built around public health, health freedom, and family outcomes.
He’ll be challenging the current Democratic hold on the seat in a district that has seen competitive races in recent cycles.
Assembly District 42 is currently represented by Democrat Tracy Brown-May, who was first appointed to the seat in 2021 and later elected in her own right.
Brown-May has not yet said whether she plans to seek another term, but her seat will be on the ballot this fall as Republicans look to chip away at Democratic majorities in Carson City.
Brandlin says his campaign will center on health policy, but not in the traditional government-first way voters often hear about.
“Public health should empower families, not restrict them,” Brandlin said in his campaign announcement.
He’s also emphasized prevention, personal choice, and affordability, arguing that better health outcomes and lower costs go hand in hand when government stays in its lane.
Aside from running for office, Brandlin also holds a PhD in Public Policy and Administration with an emphasis on public health, a Juris Doctor as a licensed attorney, and an MBA in finance.
As a licensed Dietetic Technician and small business owner, Brandlin has worked with functional medicine doctors, health coaches, and agricultural producers; groups he says are often overlooked in public health discussions.
AD 42 is made up of suburban neighborhoods and families concerned about cost-of-living pressures, education, healthcare access, and public safety.
Those issues are likely to dominate the race, regardless of who ultimately emerges as the Democratic nominee.
For now, Brandlin is in the early stages of building name recognition, campaign infrastructure, and fundraising support.
Brandlin’s campaign is just getting started, and more details are expected in the months ahead.
