Apple CEO: ‘We’ve Got To Filter Out’ Fake News

Apple CEO: ‘We’ve Got To Filter Out’ Fake News

(Eric Lieberman, The Daily Caller News Foundation) – Apple CEO Tim Cook said Thursday that “we’ve got to filter out” fake news because it has become such a pervasive issue.

Misleading or fraudulent news stories are “one of today’s chief problems” and there is no “simple solution,” Cook told Good Morning Britain.

Cook was at a north London primary school when he made the comments, which is just one of his many stops in his trip to Europe, according to Business Insider.

“We have to give the consumer tools to help with this and we’ve got to filter out part of it before it ever gets there without losing the great openness of the internet,” Cook said.

He did not explain if Apple itself would try to directly address the problem of false information dissemination, or what he means by filtering.

Apple isn’t the only tech company that thinks “fake news” is a huge obstacle.

Facebook listed an official job opening called “Head of News Partnerships” on its website in December, eventually hiring a former CNN anchor, who isn’t shy about her distaste for Trump. The social media company has been criticized for its platform as a purveyor of certain false, or unsubstantiated, content. How Facebook, or Apple, would be able to objectively decide what news is legitimate is not yet known.
