Assemblywoman Pierce Focuses on Ways to Harm Nevadans

Assemblywoman Pierce Focuses on Ways to Harm Nevadans

(Mark Ciavola) – Today [February 18], Right Pride denounced efforts by Assemblywoman Peggy Pierce to raise taxes on working families in Nevada and the businesses that employ them. Pierce was quoted in a Las Vegas Review-Journal article today saying, “It is important to have tax bills.” According to the article, Pierce is “drawing up bills that would levy a corporate rate income tax, make services subject to the sales tax, increase alcohol and cigarette taxes, and boost the mining tax.”

“We cannot fix the economic challenges Nevadans face by punishing those still fortunate to have a job or own a business,” said Mark Ciavola, president of Right Pride – Nevada’s only gay conservative organization.

Right Pride has consistently gone after Democrats in the state legislature, including Peggy Pierce and Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford, for planning to raise taxes for individuals and businesses in Nevada. Right Pride continues to believe that the best way to fix the economic crisis in Nevada is to put Nevadans back to work. They believe a corporate income tax will kill jobs; increasing the sales tax will hurt Nevadan families; and increasing alcohol and cigarette taxes unfairly affects the state’s poorest residents.

“If Peggy Pierce wants to pay higher taxes she can write a personal check, instead of implementing policies that harm all Nevadans – gay and straight alike,” concluded Ciavola.
