Do you really think that Rahm Emanuel, the august Mayor of the City of Chicago, can make good his threat to remain a “sanctuary city”?
Not even the late Richard J. Daley could have done that without a sympathetic President.
Certainly, a loudmouth pipsqueak like Emanuel can’t.
And how sympathetic do you think Donald Trump will be to this arrogant putz?
Here’s how this works these days:
A large chunk of funding for a city like Chicago comes from the Federal Government. That’s because the Democrats have, for years, used Federal programs like a piggy bank when they couldn’t balance the budgets of cities like Chicago which they have made almost ungovernable between the public sector unions and the graft. This year, Chicago has a “small” deficit of “only” $137-million.
Any President can derail that gravy train. With the stroke of a pen.
The fact is that Federal law makes illegal immigration, well, illegal. A city which is stupid enough to refuse cooperation with Federal law enforcement is just begging to have that funding cut off. All of it, with no appeal, until it follows the law.
The Rahm Emanuels of the world really think that they’ll be able to bulldoze President Trump into not exercising his power to enforce Federal law by acting like it’s 1968 and they’re somehow protesting the draft and the Vietnam war.
I’m guessing it won’t come down that way.
Protesting sending Mexican felons, who are here illegally and can’t vote, back to Mexico with the help of the Chicago Police Department just isn’t the same.
Now, let’s be clear. We’re not talking about sending every illegal who gets a speeding ticket back. There are way too many gang bangers in Chicago committing felonies to worry about deporting folks who aren’t causing us any trouble. And, you’d think that Emanuel would be spending his time on the U.S. citizens who are turning his little toddling town into the murder capital of the nation.
You’d think that helping the Feds deport those folks who are not only criminals but here illegally would be a huge time saver for the Mayor they used to call Rambo.
Apparently not.
This is a Mayor who is far more worried about politics than body bags.
Back when Mexican nationals were showing up at Trump rallies wearing the flag of Mexico and burning the American flag, I wondered out loud what Democrat strategist was advising them.
Clearly, it was the same group of morons who were telling themselves that a Trump Presidency was impossible.
The fact is that if Trump wanted to station U.S. Marshalls or ICE agents in every lockup in every “sanctuary city”, he could. Perfectly legally. But if he just picked Chicago, San Francisco, and New York, we’re guessing the message would be sent so loud most police departments would have e-verify terminals in their squad cars in short order.
If Rambo is stupid enough to pick this fight, it’ll be a whole lot of fun watching Trump do to him what Walker, Texas Ranger does to bad guys on TV. (Ghosts sit around the campfire and tell Chuck Norris stories.)
We’ll take Trump and at least one touchdown.
